South Alabama (12-11) at New Orleans (7-15)

GAME NOTES: Lakefront Arena is the site of tonight's Sun Belt Conference meeting between the South Alabama Jaguars and the New Orleans Privateers.

The Privateers come in as the last-place team in the West Division of the Sun Belt with a record of just 2-9. The squad kicked off 2009-10 with five wins in seven tries, but since then UNO has won a total of two outings. On Saturday, the Privateers surrendered to Western Kentucky at E.A. Diddle Arena by a final of 76-56, the team's fourth straight loss.

Like New Orleans, USA is also riding a four-game slide after coming out on the short end of a 73-66 overtime decision against Troy on Saturday. After not suffering back-to-back setbacks through the first 15 games of the campaign, the Jags have now bowed in seven of their last eight contests.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, South Alabama leads by a count of 27-23, reaching that points by winning nine in a row over New Orleans.

Despite his size at just 6-2, Tim Williams recorded his second double-double of the season against the Trojans on Saturday as he tallied a career-high 28 points and cleared 12 rebounds, but he and the Jags still suffered the loss. The only other player to score in double figures for USA was Gary Redus who tallied 10 points off the bench, marking the ninth time this season he has reached double digits as a reserve. Over the course of 11 conference games this season, Williams is leading the program in scoring with his 17.1 ppg, even though his mere 61.2 percent effort at the free-throw line sends the message that he is the one to foul in crucial situations. Martino Brock (13.1 ppg) and Bryan Sherrer (11.1 ppg) have also played significant roles on offense in league action, yet this group is being outscored nonetheless by almost four points per game.

New Orleans shot the lights out in the first half against the Hilltoppers over the weekend, converting a sizzling 64 percent, but that was before the offense fell off the map with just four total field goals in the last 20 minutes of play. Charles Carmouche emerged as the lone double-digit scorer for the program with his 23 points, adding six rebounds and three assists in an effort to offset his five turnovers. Miscues were what did the team in as the Privateers suffered an unsightly 25 turnovers on the afternoon. In conference play this season UNO has been putting up just 58.4 ppg and much of that has to do with the fact that the Privateers have been playing without an injured Billy Humphrey who, through five games, had been scoring 17.8 ppg. Take him out of the mix and Carmouche is the lone offensive threat with his 13.5 ppg. Then again, with Humphrey in the lineup New Orleans wasn't exactly scaring too many opponents with its 59.9 ppg overall either.

Even though the Jaguars have suffered their share of losses in terms of personnel, the fact remains that USA is still more talented than a Privateers program at 100 percent.
