Brown (7-14) at Columbia (7-11)

GAME NOTES: Fresh off a highly-controversial loss, the Brown Bears get back to action tonight with an Ivy League game against the Columbia Lions.

Last Saturday, Brown fell victim to a poor call by the officials, as Penn's game-winning shot came after the final buzzer. Unfortunately for the Bears, replay was not available in the building. The 55-54 setback was the third in a row for Brown, which is now 7-14 overall and 1-3 in Ivy play.

As for Columbia, it enters this showdown with a 7-11 overall mark and a 1-3 record against Ivy competition. Last Saturday, the Lions knocked off Dartmouth by a 63-51 final, halting a five-game skid.

Columbia owns a 64-59 series lead over Brown, which includes two straight wins over the Bears.

Brown certainly played well enough, especially at the defensive end, to win the game against Penn, as the Bears held the Quakers to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor. Unfortunately for Brown, it was outrebounded by eight boards and outscored by four points at the foul line. Tucker Halpern scored 14 points off the bench to pace the Bears, who got 12 points from Matt Mullery. Garrett Leffelman pitched in 10 points for Brown, which is generating 66.7 ppg while allowing 72.2 ppg to opponents this year. Mullery is averaging 14.9 ppg on 55.4 percent shooting from the field, and he is also contributing 6.0 rpg while blocking 31 shots. Peter Sullivan adds 11.3 ppg for the Bears, who are being outrebounded by nearly six boards per contest.

There is only one player on the Columbia roster who is averaging double figures in scoring, as Noruwa Agho nets 17.0 ppg on the strength of his staggering 55 percent shooting from three-point range. The Lions are generating a modest 62.4 ppg despite the fact that they shoot 41.2 percent from behind the arc. Meanwhile, they are allowing 67.2 ppg to opponents. In the win over Dartmouth, Agho poured in 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. The standout guard grabbed nine rebounds as well, while backcourt mate Niko Scott scored 12 points on 4- of-6 long-range shooting. Defensively, the Lions shined, limiting the Big Green to 36.5 percent shooting. A 19-8 edge in points from the foul line also helped the cause, as did a 34-25 rebounding advantage.

The edge goes to the home team in this bout, as Columbia will pull away down the stretch. Agho will be the best player on the court.
