GAME NOTES: Big Sky Conference action will take place this evening at Worthington Arena, when the Montana State Bobcats host the Idaho State Bengals.
The last time Idaho State was in action the team suffered a 72-55 setback to Sacramento State. It was the fifth loss in the last seven games for the Bengals, who are just 3-6 in league action.
As for the Bobcats, they have dropped their last two games, falling to Northern Arizona (71-58) and Northern Colorado (74-68). The minor skid has left Montana State with a mediocre 6-4 mark in Big Sky play.
Idaho State has won four of the last six matchups against Montana State, but the Bobcats own a commanding, 98-78 edge in the all-time series, and that includes a 62-26 advantage in games played in Bozeman.
The Bengals were ice cold in their last matchup, as the team scored just 55 points in a loss to Sacramento State. Idaho State shot just 38.6 percent from the field, and made only 2-of-15 attempts from long range. Broderick Gilchrest led the team with 14 points, while Chron Tatum tallied 12 points, to go along with nine rebounds. Donnie Carson chipped in 10 points, while the team's best scoring threat, Amorrow Morgan finished with just nine points on a 3-of-13 showing from the field. Despite the poor outing, Morgan is still pacing the team with 18.3 ppg, and is also collecting 4.2 rpg. Gilchrest is contributing 15.0 ppg, to go along with a team-best 3.2 rpg. On the season, the Bengals have been inconsistent at best offensively, netting just 66.2 ppg.
The Bobcats might have a winning ledger on the season, but the team has had its struggles offensively, netting a mere 67.9 ppg. Bobby Howard is currently leading the team with 13.1 ppg and is also pulling down 5.4 rpg. Erik Rush is helping out with 11.6 ppg, and has dished out a team-best 57 assists. The last time Montana State was in action the team shot 43.1 percent from the floor, but finished just 7-of-23 from behind the arc in a loss to Northern Colorado. Branden Johnson led the way with 16 points, while Bobby Howard added 13 points and nine rebounds. Marquis Navarre and Cody Anderson both chipped in 10 points in the setback.
The Bobcats are stuck in a minor funk, but look for them to rebound this evening against a struggling Idaho State squad.
