The Cardinals own a slim 15-13 edge over Akron in the all-time series, but the Zips have significantly closed the gap by winning the last five meetings.
The Zips put forth a tremendous showing the last time they were on the floor, as the team scored 90 points in a win over Northern Illinois. Akron shot 50.0 percent from the field, and also made 8-of-18 attempts from behind the arc. Darryl Roberts led the way with 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Chris McKnight added 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Anthony Hitchens contributed 15 points, while Brett McKnight tallied 11 points. On the season however, the Zips are only posting 70.4 ppg, due to a lack of scoring depth. Brett McKnight is the top offensive threat, but is averaging just 10.1 ppg.
The Cardinals might have a winning ledger on the season, but the team has done it without a lot of offensive firepower, averaging 60.0 ppg behind a 41.5 percent shooting effort. Jarrod Jones is currently leading the team with 12.3 ppg on the season, and is also collecting a team-best 7.6 rpg. Jauwan Scaife is the only other player netting double figures for Ball State, at 10.3 ppg. The last time the Cardinals were on the floor the team only scored 64 points, but that was just enough for them to get past Bowling Green. Ball State shot 41.7 percent from the field and was led by Randy Davis who scored 18 points. Terrence Watson added 14 points, while Jones finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. As for Scaife, he chipped in 10 points in the win.
Neither team is very explosive offensively, and both squads rely more on their play defensively, so expect a low-scoring game. The Cardinals have played well of late and should use their homecourt advantage to earn the win here.
