Creighton (12-11) at Missouri State (15-8)

GAME NOTES: The Creighton Bluejays fly into Springfield this evening for a Missouri Valley Conference clash with the Missouri State Bears.

Creighton has won three of its last four games to improve to 12-11 overall and 7-5 in MVC action. On Wednesday, the club took care of business at home with an 84-71 triumph over Evansville to move to 10-1 in front of the Omaha faithful. On a down note, the Bluejays enter today's tilt with a 2-7 mark in true road games.

Missouri State has suffered back-to-back losses to fall to 15-8 overall and 5-7 in conference action. On Wednesday, the Bears dropped a 73-67 decision to Southern Illinois on the road. Fortunately, they are 11-2 at home, an obvious reason for optimism tonight.

The Bluejays owns a 29-22 series lead over the Bears, which includes seven straight wins over Missouri State.

The fact that there is only one double-digit scorer in the lineup for Creighton is somewhat surprising, as Kenny Lawson Jr. stands alone with his 12.0 ppg on 53.5 percent shooting from the floor to go along with 6.6 rpg and 33 blocks. Fortunately for the Bluejays, they do get solid contributions from many other sources. Creighton is generating 70.2 ppg while allowing a similar 68.4 ppg to foes. In the 13-point win over Evansville last time out, Justin Carter poured in 17 points for the Bluejays, who placed five players in double figures. Ironically, Lawson wasn't one of the five, as he was held to four points in 27 minutes of action. Josh Jones pitched in 14 points and Antoine Young had 10 for Creighton, which shot a school-record 66.7 percent from the floor and only turned the ball over nine times. An 18-10 edge in points from the foul line certainly helped the cause.

Kyle Weems is scoring 13.6 ppg this season on the strength of his 42.2 percent shooting from three-point range for Missouri State. Adam Leonard provides 12.8 ppg on 39.7 percent shooting from the floor, and Jermaine Mallett checks in with 10.7 ppg. The Bears are generating 72.3 ppg while allowing 66.3 ppg, but that positive differential is much more a reflection of the team's play against non-conference foes than against league opponents. Leonard was tremendous in defeat against Southern Illinois on Wednesday, as he poured in 29 points on 7-of-11 shooting from three-point range. Will Creekmore added 12 points for the Bears, who finished with five more turnovers than assists and were outscored 19-11 from the foul line.

The edge in this contest goes to Missouri State, as it plays its best ball at home and will find a way to knock off the Bluejays.
