Cal State Northridge (9-13) at Long Beach State (10-12)

GAME NOTES: The Matadors will try to remain in the win column when Cal State Northridge takes on the Long Beach State 49ers this evening in a Big West Conference bout at the Walter Pyramid.

The Matadors pushed their league mark to 4-5 on the season with a 63-47 victory over UC Riverside on Thursday. It was the second straight win for Northridge, which is just 2-9 on the road this season.

The last time the 49ers were on the floor the team suffered a tough, 81-75 overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton. The loss snapped the team's two-game winning streak and dropped LBSU to just 4-5 in Big West play.

Earlier this season the 49ers grabbed a thrilling, 69-68 victory over Northridge, and now own a 27-20 edge in the all-time series.

The Matadors used a tremendous defensive effort in their last matchup, holding the Highlanders to just 47 points on a 30.0 percent shooting effort. At the other end of the court the team on scored 63 points, but that was clearly enough thanks to the stingy defensive play. CS Northridge shot 49.0 percent overall and made 10-of-19 attempts from behind the arc. Raymond Cody was the only player on the court to post double figures for Northridge, as the guard tallied 18 points, to go along with six rebounds. The team's leading scorer on the season, Kenny Daniels (13.5 ppg), struggled in the contest, finishing with just two points and three turnovers.

The 49ers forced overtime on Thursday against Fullerton, but eventually fell to the Titans by a six-point margin. LBSU finished with 75 points and even though the team shot 42.9 percent from the floor, the 49ers made only 2-of-18 attempts from long range and 7-of-17 shots from the foul line. Larry Anderson led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Casper Ware also tallied 20 points, to go along with four assists and five steals. T.J. Robinson posted a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Eugene Phelps chipped in 10 points. Robinson has been the top player on the floor for LBSU, pacing the team with 15.4 ppg and 10.4 rpg. Anderson is helping out with 13.1 ppg, while Ware is netting 11.5 ppg, to go along with 5.4 apg.

The Matadors come into this matchup with a two-game winning streak, but look for that small amount of momentum to end this evening. The 49ers have plenty of scoring weapons and considering how poorly Northridge has played on the road, LBSU should have no trouble gaining a victory.
