Florida Atlantic (12-11) at Denver (13-9)

GAME NOTES: Currently in a three-way tie for the top spot in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference, the Florida Atlantic Owls will take on the Denver Pioneers this evening at Magness Arena.

The Owls saw their five-game winning streak come to an end the last time they were in action, as FAU was defeated by North Texas, 86-69. With that, the Owls fell to 8-4 in conference play and are now tied with Troy and Middle Tennessee for first place in the East Division.

The Pioneers have hit the skids of late, dropping two straight games, and four of their last five matchups. The last time Denver was on the floor the team suffered a 73-62 loss to Arkansas State. The setback against the Red Wolves leaves Denver with a mediocre 6-5 mark in conference action.

This will be the fifth meeting in the all-time series between the two schools. At this point both teams have won two games apiece, with Denver claiming both of its victories at home.

The Owls have been one of the most dangerous teams at the offensive end of the floor in the conference and come into this game averaging 75.2 ppg. Greg Gantt is currently pacing the team with 15.9 ppg, while Raymond Taylor is netting 14.3 ppg, to go along with a team-best 147 assists. On Thursday night, the Owls could not overcome some of their mistakes against North Texas, which is why the team suffered a 17-point loss. Florida Atlantic shot 49.2 percent from the floor in the matchup, but finished just 2-of-13 from long range, and made only 5-of-13 attempts from the foul line. Gantt led the way in the loss with 18 points, while Taylor posted 14 points, to go along with seven assists.

Producing at the offensive end of the floor has been an issue for Denver, as the team is netting just 66.7 ppg, despite shooting an impressive 49.9 percent from the floor. Nate Rohnert is currently pacing the team with 15.1 ppg, but the guard is also posting 4.6 rpg and 92 assists. Brian Stafford is the only other player netting double figures, coming into this game with 11.8 ppg. The last time Denver was in action the team only scored 62 points in a loss to Arkansas State. Even though the Pioneers were not victorious, the squad shot 45.8 percent from the floor, and also made 10-of-25 attempts from long range. Stafford led the way in the setback with 19 points, while Rohnert tallied 13 points.

The Pioneers have enjoyed most of their success at home this season. With that said however, Denver has played poorly of late and could suffer a loss at home against a high-scoring FAU squad.
