GAME NOTES: Mid-American Conference action will take place this afternoon in Ypsilanti, when the Eastern Michigan Eagles host the Ohio University Bobcats at the Convocation Center.
The last time the Bobcats were on the floor the team needed overtime to slip past the Toledo Rockets. It marked Ohio's third win in the last four games, while pushing its league mark to 3-5 on the year.
As for the Eagles, they fell to 3-6 in conference action with a 75-68 setback to Kent State on Thursday. It was the fifth loss in the last seven games for Eastern Michigan, which is currently 7-3 at home on the season.
In regard to the all-time series between the two schools on the hardwood, the Bobcats own a commanding, 42-21 edge over Eastern Michigan.
The Bobcats have not been overwhelming offensively, but the team has done enough to post victories of late. Ohio is currently netting 73.5 ppg on the year, and that comes on a pedestrian 41.2 percent shooting effort. Armon Bassett is currently pacing the team with 13.5 ppg, while D.J. Cooper is netting 13.3 ppg, to go along with a team-best 124 assists. The Bobcats grabbed an overtime win in their last matchup, but the team was far from impressive, shooting just 34.4 percent from the field. Ohio finished just 4- of-20 from long range, and made only 19-of-33 attempts from the foul line. Tommy Freeman paced the team with 17 points in the win, while Reggie Keely tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Cooper also tallied a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Bassett was held to just five points.
Not much went right for the Eagles the last time they were on the floor, which is why the team suffered a setback to Kent State. Eastern Michigan shot a pedestrian 40.7 percent from the floor, but finished just 8-of-24 from long range, and made only 16-of-26 attempts from the foul line. Carlos Medlock led the way in the loss with 22 points and five assists, while Brandon Bowdry and Justin Dobbins both contributed double doubles. Bowdry finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Dobbins posted 10 points, to go along with 10 boards. Bowdry has been dominant throughout the season and is leading the team with 16.0 ppg and 9.8 rpg. Medlock is posting 15.0 ppg on the year, while Dobbins comes into this matchup with 12.1 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
The Eagles have been up and down throughout the season and it is hard to gauge what team will show up. However, in front of a home crowd, look for Eastern Michigan to get the best of the Bobcats.
