San Francisco (9-14) at Saint Mary's-CA (20-3)

GAME NOTES: Currently tied with Gonzaga for the top spot in the West Coast Conference, the Saint Mary's Gaels will try to remain in that position when they host the San Francisco Dons this evening at McKeon Pavilion.

After dealing Gonzaga its first league loss on the year, the Dons continued their strong play with a thrilling, 72-70 overtime victory over San Diego on Thursday. It was just the second road win on the year for the Dons, who are an even 4-4 in WCC action.

As for the Gaels, they have won five straight matchups and 10 of their last 11 games. The most recent win for Saint Mary's was a 74-62 decision over Santa Clara. With the win over the Broncos, the Gaels pushed their league mark to 7-1 on the year, and also bumped their home ledger to 11-2.

The Dons currently own a comfortable 103-63 edge over Saint Mary's in the all- time series, but the Gaels have won the last five matchups, including an 83-62 decision earlier this year.

The Dons have been rather bland at the offensive end of the floor this season, netting 71.0 ppg, behind a respectable 44.9 percent shooting effort. Dior Lowhorn has been the best player on the floor for San Francisco, pacing the team with 17.9 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Kwame Vaughn is the only other player netting double figures, averaging 13.4 ppg. The Dons fought hard in their last matchup, and slipped by San Diego on the road for a two-point overtime victory. San Fran shot 49.1 percent from the field in the matchup and that included a 9-of-21 clip from long range. Lowhorn led the way with 26 points, while Michael Williams and Vaughn tallied 20 and 11 points, respectively.

The Gaels are not only one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the conference, but their success at that end of the court could rival some of the elite teams in the nation. Saint Mary's is currently producing 81.7 ppg on the year and that is thanks to the team's 49.6 percent effort from the floor, and an equally impressive 42.1 percent shooting from behind the arc. Omar Samhan is one of the top post players in the country and is pacing the team with 21.6 ppg, 11.2 rpg and 64 blocks. Mickey McDonald is contributing 13.9 ppg, to go along with his team-best 126 assists. Matthew Dellavedova has dished out 107 assists and is also posting 12.5 ppg. The Gaels were not overwhelming the last time they were in action, but the team did enough to grab a victory over Santa Clara. Saint Mary's shot 45.6 percent from the field and also made 10-of-22 attempts from behind the arc. Samhan was sensational in the win, posting 22 points, to go along with 12 rebounds and eight blocks. McConnell added 17 points, while Clint Steindl contributed 12 points.

The Dons have won back-to-back overtime matchups, and while the team is riding high, San Francisco may be out of gas for this matchup tonight. Look for the Gaels to coast to victory.
