GAME NOTES: Mountain West Conference foes tangle in Colorado Springs this afternoon, as the Air Force Falcons entertain the TCU Horned Frogs.
TCU has been dreadful on the road thus far in 2009-10, winning just one of nine true road dates, which is one of the reasons why the program is showing a mere 2-6 record in league play. The most recent game for the Frogs took place on Tuesday night when the team was crushed by 12th-ranked BYU at the Marriott Center, 76-56. The setback was the fourth in a row and the fifth in six tries for the Horned Frogs.
As for the Falcons, they finally picked up their first MWC win in nearly two years a week ago when they posted a 70-63 victory over Wyoming at home, but just a few days later it was right back to the loss column for the academy with its 70-48 defeat at the hands of San Diego State. Air Force has now fallen in seven of the last eight outings overall.
With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Falcons have won four of the five games played at home against TCU and are ahead in the all-time series by a count of 6-5. However, TCU topped the academy in Fort Worth last month with a 59-50 decision and that means the Frogs have now won three in a row over Air Force.
TCU shot only 35.7 percent from the field in the first half and 34.4 percent after the break, preventing the Horned Frogs from making a serious run at the top team in the conference on the road in Provo on Tuesday night. In fact, were it not for backups Greg Hill and Garlon Green who posted 11 points apiece, the outcome could have been even more lopsided. Ronnie Moss was the lone starter in double figures with his 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting, adding seven of the unit's eight assists. For the season, not only is Moss the leading scorer for the school with his 14.3 ppg, stemming from a mere 38.2 percent shooting from the floor, he is also one of the nation's leaders in the passing department with 147 dishes in 23 starts. Imports Zvonko Buljan and Edvinas Ruzgas account for 13.0 and 12.0 ppg, respectively, but to count on them every time out would be foolish.
Air Force, which has had to deal with countless injuries this season, didn't stand a chance against the Aztecs earlier this week after it converted a total of just seven field goal through the first 20 minutes of action. Not only did the Falcons finish the night with 15 turnovers, they shot just 1-of-6 at the free-throw line as well. Finally back in action, Grant Parker posted 14 points and Tom Fow 11 in a reserve role. Parker, who has seen action in just 11 games this season, paced the team with his 14.6 ppg and is also first on the glass with close to six rebounds per outing. What makes Grant such a valuable commodity is not only his work on the glass, but also the fact that he can extend defenses out to the perimeter where he has made good on 40 percent of his three-point attempts. The team as a whole is hitting just 32.1 percent beyond the arc, which is why it is scoring only 60.1 ppg right now.
Even though Grant is again ready to man the paint for the Falcons, without enough players to hit the glass the Falcons will once again be at a disadvantage.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
