(19) Temple (19-4) at Richmond (17-6)

GAME NOTES: Two of the top teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference square off this afternoon, as the 19th-ranked Temple Owls come calling on the Richmond Spiders.

Temple is enjoying a resurgence of sorts under the tutelage of head coach Fran Dunphy, running out to a 19-4 record, which includes a 7-1 mark in A-10 play. The Owls have won eight of their last nine games, and their most recent outing took place at home on Wednesday against Duquesne, resulting in a 76-60 TU victory.

Richmond is 17-6 on the season, 6-2 in conference, and has won three straight games and five of its last six overall. The Spiders, who are seeking their third straight win over a ranked opponent, are 10-1 at home and are fresh off a 68-58 triumph at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night -- their first-ever on Hawk Hill. A solid defensive team, UR has held 18 of its 23 opponents to 65 points or less.

Temple owns an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series with Richmond, and the Owls have won four of the last five meetings.

Stingy defense has been Temple's claim to fame this season, as foes are permitted just 57.0 ppg behind a mere 38.0 percent shooting from the field and only 27.4 percent from three-point range. The Owls are led at the offensive end by Ryan Brooks and his 15.5 ppg, while help comes in the form of Juan Fernandez (12.3 ppg) and Lavoy Allen (10.9 ppg). TU is hitting 42.8 percent of its total shots, 34.0 percent of its perimeter attempts and 68.8 percent of its free throws. Allen posted his third straight double-double, and his eighth of the season, in the 16-point win over Duquesne on Wednesday by netting 14 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Ramone Moore and Rahlir Jefferson both came off the bench to score 15 and 13 points, respectively for the Owls, who shot a sizzling 57.1 percent from the field and drained 6-of-11 three-pointers. They also went 14-of-16 at the foul line and allowed the Dukes to convert just six of their 20 long-range attempts.

Richmond boasts three players averaging double digits in the scoring column, starting with Preseason All-Atlantic 10 First Teamer Kevin Anderson (17.2 ppg). Anderson is joined by David Gonzalvez (13.1 ppg) and Justin Harper (10.5 ppg), the latter of whom has scored 10 points or more in eight of the last 10 games. Richmond, which leads the A-10 and is ranked 19th in the nation in turnover margin (+4.04), committed a season-low seven turnovers in the recent win at Saint Joseph's. The Spiders also pace the conference in steals. Gonzalvez scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds against the Hawks, while Ryan Butler added 15 points and came up with four steals. Richmond connected on 46.6 percent of its field goal attempts, while holding Saint Joe's to 39.6 percent. A 32-14 edge in points in the paint, as well as 21-10 advantage in points off turnovers played an integral role in the outcome.

This should be an entertaining game between two of the best teams in the A-10. Temple, despite its impressive record, isn't without its faults, and while the Owls are 8-2 in true road games this year, expect them to have their wings clipped today in what will likely be a low-scoring affair.
