Tulsa (18-4) at Texas-El Paso (16-5)

GAME NOTES: The top two teams in Conference-USA will collide this evening at the Don Haskins Center, when the Texas-El Paso Miners host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

The Golden Hurricane pushed their conference mark to an impressive 7-1 with their recent, 73-69 victory over Marshall. It was the ninth win in the last 10 games for Tulsa, which is 4-2 on the road this season.

As for the Miners, they have been red-hot of late, winning six straight matchups. The last time the Miners were on the floor the team collected a 65-58 decision over Houston. With the win over the Cougars, the Miners pushed their league ledger to 7-1, and bumped up their home record to 11-2 on the year.

The Golden Hurricane have won six of the last seven matchups against Texas-El Paso and now hold a comfortable 26-11 edge over the Miners in the all-time series.

The Golden Hurricane have stormed over the competition this season with solid play offensively, and a tenacious approach at the defensive end of the floor. Tulsa comes into this matchup holding opponents to just 62.5 ppg, and at the same time the team is producing a respectable 74.1 ppg. Ben Uzoh has done a little of everything, netting 15.8 ppg, to go along with 4.6 rpg and 4.0 apg. Jerome Jordan is contributing 14.8 ppg and team-highs in rebounds (8.3 rpg) and blocks (60). Justin Hurtt, who is shooting 43.0 percent from behind the arc, is netting 14.4 ppg on the season. The last time Tulsa was on the floor the team captured a four-point win over Marshall. Jordan led the way in the win with a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Hurtt tallied 18 points. Steven Idlet contributed off the bench with a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards.

The Miners have plenty of options that can score points, which would explain why the team is averaging a healthy 77.1 ppg. Randy Culpepper is pacing the team with 16.7 ppg, while Derrick Caracter has played well down low, posting 14.3 ppg, to go along with 8.9 rpg. Christian Polk is helping out with 11.6 ppg, while Arnett Moultrie is posting 11.1 ppg and 6.9 rpg. The last time the Miners were on the floor the team only scored 65 points, but that was enough for them to sneak past Houston. Texas-El Paso only made 2-of-18 three-point attempts, but finished with a solid 45.3 percent clip from the field. Caracter led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Jeremy Williams and Polk tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively.

This is obviously an important matchup, and should be a thrilling game from start to finish. The Golden Hurricane are slightly better overall, but with homecourt advantage, the Miners should grab a narrow win.
