(2) Villanova (20-1) at (7) Georgetown (16-5)

GAME NOTES: Two of the top teams in the Big East collide in our nation's capital, as second-ranked Villanova and seventh-ranked Georgetown square off on the floor of the Verizon Center.

Jay Wright's Wildcats are the only undefeated team in Big East play, sitting atop the standings at 9-0. Villanova has won 20 of its 21 games this season and brings an 11-game win streak into this contest. The last time the team won more than 11 straight games was a 13-game win streak during the 1963064 campaign. The Wildcats kept their flawless league mark intact with Tuesday's 81-71 victory over Seton Hall.

The Hoyas are an impressive 16-5 on the season, but the team has shown itself to be a tad inconsistent of late. After blowing by a very good Duke team last weekend (89-77), John Thompson's squad came out flat on Wednesday, with a 72-54 loss to South Florida. With the setback, Georgetown fell to just 6-4 in conference play.

Georgetown holds a 39-28 lead in the all-time series, but it is Villanova looking for the regular-season sweep after posting an 82-77 victory in Philadelphia on January 17th.

Villanova shot just 40 percent from the floor in the first half against Seton Hall, but still took a seven-point lead into halftime. The second half saw the Wildcats convert a much better 48.4 percent to keep the Pirates at bay. 'Nova placed four in double figures in the win and destroyed Seton Hall on the boards, 50-31. Antonio Pena led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds. Scottie Reynolds poured in 15 points, while Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes checked in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Villanova has gotten the job done at both ends of the floor this season, averaging 85.0 ppg, while allowing just over 70. Reynolds has matured into not only one of the Big East's best, but the entire country for that matter. The senior guard is shooting .496 from the floor, including .411 from behind the arc, while netting 18.5 ppg. Fisher is next in the scoring column at 13.2 ppg. Pena is the top option up front, averaging 11.1 ppg and a team-high 7.6 rpg. Depth comes in the form of Taylor King (9.3 ppg), Reggie Redding (9.1 ppg) and Stokes (9.1 ppg).

The Hoyas had a nine-point lead at the half against South Florida after shooting 60 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes. However, the second stanza told the tale, as Georgetown went ice-cold (.360 shooting), falling by eight points to the Bulls. The loss spoiled terrific outings from center Greg Monroe and guard Austin Freeman, who scored 21 points apiece. However, the remainder of the roster failed to produce, netting a combined 22 points to close out the scoring. The Hoyas are still a dangerous offensive squad, averaging 72.5 ppg on a steady .503 shooting. Four of the team's five starters are averaging double figures, led by Freeman's 16.4 ppg. Monroe is a force in the middle at 15.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, while Chris Wright (14.6 ppg) and Jason Clark (10.5 ppg) round out the top scoring threats.

The Hoyas will have to be on their game for a full 40 minutes to take out the Wildcats in this one. That is easier said than done, as Reynolds and company are simply clicking on all cylinders right now.
