GAME NOTES: A nightmare of a season for Marist continues this afternoon, as the Red Foxes host the Iona Gaels in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the McCann Center.
The last time the Gaels were in action the team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end with an 88-68 setback to Siena. The loss to the Saints dropped the team to 9-4 in conference play, and left Iona with a 7-3 mark on the road.
The Red Foxes continue to suffer loss after loss on the year and have now dropped 22 of their 23 games. Marist has dropped its last 11 outings and that includes a 72-47 setback to Manhattan in its last contest. With the loss to the Jaspers, the Red Foxes fell to 1-12 in conference action.
The Gaels posted a 61-42 victory over Marist earlier this season and now own a 31-15 edge over the Red Foxes in the all-time series.
Iona might have a winning ledger on the season, but it isn't because of gaudy offensive numbers, as the team is averaging a modest 67.8 ppg. Scott Machado is the only player netting double figures for the Gaels, as the guard is pacing the team with 12.3 ppg and 98 assists. The last time the Gaels were on the floor, they shot just 38.3 percent overall and connected on only 4- of-18 attempts from long range, en route to a 20-point loss to Siena. Machado led the way in the setback with 24 points, while Alejo Rodriguez posted a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds.
The Red Foxes do not possess a single player that is averaging double figures, a big reason for the team's lack of victories. The struggles offensively have hurt the Red Foxes, as the team is producing just 57.3 ppg. Candon Rusin is leading the team, but he comes into this game with just 9.2 ppg. Marist's poor play at the offensive end of the floor continued in the recent loss to Manhattan, as the Red Foxes finished with just 47 points behind a woeful 30.6 percent shooting effort. Rusin led the way with 12 points, while Daye Kaba tallied 11 points, to go along with eight rebounds.
Marist has been the punching bag in the MAAC this season, and that should not change this afternoon, as the Gaels should have no trouble recording another double-digit victory here.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
