GAME NOTES: The top team in the Southern Conference will take the floor this evening when the College of Charleston Cougars host the Citadel Bulldogs at Carolina First Arena.
The Bulldogs enter this matchup fresh off a 68-60 victory over Chattanooga on Saturday. It was the second straight win for the Citadel, which is now an even 6-6 in conference action.
As for the Cougars, they currently hold the best record in the conference with an 11-2 mark. Charleston, which is a flawless 10-0 at home, comes into this matchup with a three-game winning streak, and that includes a convincing, 75-54 decision over Samford on Saturday.
The Citadel won both meetings against Charleston last season, but the Cougars defeated the Bulldogs back in January, and now hold a 44-40 edge in the all- time series.
The Citadel has been up and down throughout the season, and a main reason for the inconsistent play has been a lack of production offensively, with the Bulldogs coming into this matchup netting just 60.4 ppg. Cameron Wells has been the top player on the floor, leading the team with 17.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 4.1 apg. Zach Urbanus is the only other player netting double figures for the Bulldogs, as the guard is posting 11.0 ppg. The Bulldogs only shot 32.7 percent from the floor in their last matchup, but still managed to grab an eight-point victory over Chattanooga. Urbanus led the way in the win with 24 points, while Wells added 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Cougars shot a pedestrian 40.0 percent from the floor in their recent matchup against Samford, but the team used an impressive 18-of-42 clip from behind the arc to coast to a victory. Andrew Goudelock, who connected on seven three-pointers finished with 25 points and also pulled down seven boards. Tony White Jr added 15 points, while Donavan Monroe posted 12 points, to go along with six rebounds. Throughout the season the Cougars have been solid offensively, as the team comes into this matchup averaging 74.6 ppg, behind a healthy 46.1 percent shooting effort. Goudelock has been the go-to guy for Charleston, leading the team with 19.7 ppg and 87 assists. Monroe and White Jr have also been solid, netting 12.6 and 11.5 ppg, respectively.
The Cougars are clearly the better team in this matchup, and should have no trouble remaining undefeated at home on the year.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
