Houston (11-11) at Western Kentucky (13-11)

GAME NOTES: The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers resume their three-game homestand tonight, as they welcome the Houston Cougars to E.A. Diddle Arena for a non- conference affair.

The Hilltoppers kicked off their homestand on a high note, capturing an 87-69 decision over Troy on Saturday. It was the second win in three games for WKU, which improved to 13-11 overall and 10-3 at Diddle Arena. The team will wrap up its homestand on Thursday against Arkansas State.

As for the Cougars, they are coming off a narrow 57-55 setback to Southern Miss on Saturday. The defeat was the second in a row and fourth in five games, as Houston is now just 11-11 overall and in danger of falling below .500 for the first time this season.

Houston leads the all-time series with WKU, 2-1, and that includes a 73-64 victory in its home opener a season ago.

Southern Miss' Torye Pelham's put back as time expired, sent the Cougars to a heart-breaking 57-55 loss over the weekend. It was a tough loss, but Houston could only blame itself after shooting a dismal 32.3 percent from the floor and a poor 13-of-22 at the foul line. Aubrey Coleman guided the squad in defeat with 22 points, while Maurice McNeil turned in a double-double of 12 points and 13 boards. The nation's leading scorer, Coleman is averaging 25.9 ppg on the campaign, to go along with other team highs of 7.4 rpg and 68 steals. Kelvin Lewis tacks on 15.6 ppg for Houston and he is deadly from long range, hitting at a 41.6 percent clip.

The Hilltoppers shot a solid 48.3 percent from the field, including a 12-of-26 performance from downtown, as they defeated Troy this past weekend. WKU also went 17-of-23 at the foul line, in addition to holding a 41-30 advantage on the boards. Steffphon Pettigrew led the charge with 25 points and seven rebounds, while A.J. Slaughter had 17 points. Slaughter tops the roster in scoring on the season at 17.0 ppg and he is also dishing off a team-high 3.9 apg. Pettigrew has also been effective for WKU and he comes in with 15.2 ppg and 6.3 rpg. Sergio Kerusch pitches in with 12.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg, while Jeremy Evans adds 10.3 ppg and a team-best 7.3 rpg to the equation.

WKU has done well to protect its home floor and another sound shooting performance should lift it past the struggling Cougars tonight.
