Southeast Missouri State (7-16) at Tennessee-Martin (3-19)

GAME NOTES: One of the weakest teams in all of college basketball hits the floor at the Elam Center tonight, as the slumping Tennessee Martin Skyhawks challenge the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks in Ohio Valley Conference play.

UTM has a total of just three wins in 22 opportunities so far this season and only one of those has come against a Division I program in SIU-Edwardsville (68-52). As for the other two triumphs, they were lodged against the likes of Harris-Stowe and Westminster earlier in the campaign. Most recently the Skyhawks bowed to Tennessee State at home on Saturday with a 74-68 decision, marking the team's 12th loss in as many tries versus the rest of the OVC.

As for the Redhawks, they really haven't been that much better with a total of only six wins overall. On Saturday, the team was turned back by Eastern Illinois in a 75-49 decision, the squad's fourth loss in the last five outings. As a result, SEMO is now just 3-9 against the rest of the league as well.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, SEMO holds a 36-23 advantage thanks to a 77-63 victory at home for the Redhawks in the first meeting of the season back on January 21st.

THe Redhawks went from converting just nine field goals in the first half against Eastern Illinois to a mere seven in the second period, resulting in the team's awkward 26-point home loss over the weekend. Sam Pearson was the lone double-digit scorer for the group with his 11 points, while Cameron Butler and Derek Thompson delivered nine points apiece for a group that had just as many turnovers (16) as baskets. Pearson, one of two players to have started all 23 games for the program, is putting up 9.8 ppg at the moment, while the other, Anthony Allison, checks in with 10.1 ppg as the only double- digit scorer on the season. Considering the Redhawks are producing just 64.8 ppg thus far, it should not come as a surprise that point production is at a premium.

UT-Martin shot a blistering 60.9 percent from the field in the first half against Tennessee State on Saturday, but even an 11-point lead was not enough to hold off the visitors in what turned into yet another loss for the Skyhawks. Marquis Weddle was responsible for a team-best 25 points, but he shot just 4-of-13 behind the three-point line along the way, while Terrance Coleman tacked on 11 points with his 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. Weddle, the leading scorer for the Skyhawks in each of their last four outings, is putting up a team-best 17.0 ppg overall as a 38.6 percent shooter from the floor. However, the difference between Weddle and most of his teammates is that he has played in only 12 games thus far and has not had to experience the full force of one loss after another. Benzor Simmons, first on the glass with almost six rebounds per game, checks in with 14.0 ppg and still this team is being outscored by more than 12 ppg at the moment.

Neither one of these teams has had much to cheer about this season, but perhaps being at home and having a sense of revenge working in their favor might allow the Skyhawks to pull one out for the fans that remain.
