GAME NOTES: Still without a league win, the Evansville Purple Aces will host the Wichita State Shockers this evening in a Missouri Valley Conference tilt at Roberts Stadium.
The last time the Shockers were on the floor the team grabbed a 76-70 victory over Indiana State. It was the third win in the last four games for Wichita State, which is now 9-4 in conference action.
Since winning six of their first nine games, the Purples Aces have suffered 14 straight losses, and 13 of those setbacks came in league play. The most recent setback was an 83-63 loss to Bradley, which dropped Evansville to 5-8 at home.
The Shockers have won 11 of the last 13 games against Evansville, and now own a 17-13 edge in the all-time series with the Purple Aces.
Wichita State only shot 38.7 percent in its last matchup, but the team still managed to walk away with a 76-70 victory over Indiana State. The Shockers only made 8-of-27 attempts from long range, but used a 20-of-31 clip from the foul line to grab the win. Clevin Hannah led the way with 16 points in the win, while JT Durley added 15 points and eight rebounds. Toure' Murry also posted 15 points, while Graham Hatch tallied 12 points. Murry has done a little of everything for Wichita State, as the guard is pacing the team with 12.7 ppg, to go along with 5.2 rpg and 81 assists. Hannah, who is leading the team with 106 assists, is also netting 12.4 ppg, while JT Durley is contributing 11.4 ppg.
Performing at the offensive end of the floor has been a major issue for Evansville, as the Purple Aces are producing just 65.6 ppg, behind a mediocre 42.6 percent shooting effort. Colt Ryan is currently leading the team with 15.6 ppg, and has also dished out 69 assists. James Haarsma is posting 11.1 ppg, while Denver Holmes comes into this game with 10.6 ppg. Evansville's struggles offensively continued in the recent loss to Bradley, as the Purple Aces finished with just 63 points. Evansville shot 41.8 percent from the floor, but finished just 4-of-17 from long range, and 13-of-20 from the foul line. Ryan led the way in the loss with 17 points, while Haarsma posted 13 points.
The Shockers have dominated Evansville over the years and even though the Purple Aces are home, look for Wichita State to grab a victory.
