GAME NOTES: The Anteaters of UC Irvine shoot for back-to-back wins for the first time since the second week of December as they entertain the Cal State Fullerton Titans in a Big West Conference battle at the Bren Events Center.

Over the last week, the Anteaters took a break from conference play to schedule a home-and-home against Cal State Bakersfield. UCI lost the road test a week ago in a 68-55 final, running its losing streak to four in a row, but the squad fought back with a 76-63 win at home on Saturday. The victory was just the second in the last nine games for Irvine, which is now four games under .500 on the season overall.

As for the Titans, a team that is an even 11-11 on the campaign, they are hoping to rebound from a 76-59 loss to UC Riverside at home over the weekend. The setback snapped a three-game win streak by the program and evened their record in league play at 5-5 which, upon entering the week, had them tied with three other schools in the Big West standings.

Fullerton won the first meeting of the season between these two teams by a score of 74-68 a couple weeks back, which means the Titans now own a 48-41 advantage in the all-time series as a result.

Aaron Thompson led three players in double figures on Saturday with his 16 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor and sinking both of his three-point tries, as he led the Titans in the home loss against UCR. Jacques Streeter and Bryce Webster chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively, for a team that shot only 17-of-30 at the free-throw line and allowed the Highlanders to convert 52.8 percent from the floor and all six of their three-point attempts. After 22 games Thompson leads a list of four players who are scoring in double figures for the Titans with his 11.9 ppg, thanks mostly to his incredible 54.7 percent shooting behind the three-point line. Jer'Vaughn Johnson adds another 11.0 ppg and focuses his efforts in the paint where he has cleared better than six rebounds per game, but a closer look at Thompson's stats show that he is among the team leaders in that area as well with 5.5 rpg, making him one of the most versatile players in the conference.

After falling to Bakersfield in the previous meeting, the Anteaters put it all together on Saturday and made sure they were ready in their 13-point home win. Eric Wise delivered 21 points and seven rebounds for the locals, followed by Darren Moore with 16 points and nine boards before he picked up his fifth personal foul. Hitting 3-of-7 shots behind the three-point line, Michael Hunter added 15 points for a squad that dialed up the defense and forced 19 turnovers which they eventually traded in for 27 points. As one of three players to have started all 24 games this season, Wise leads the pack in scoring with his 16.0 ppg, followed by another permanent fixture in the lineup in Hunter with his 13.8 ppg. Wise has done quite a bit of damage at the free- throw line (102-of-144) while Hunter handles much of the action on the perimeter (61-of-163) and between them they've combined for 135 assists to keep their teammates in the mix as well.

Wise and Hunter combine to handle the offense for the Anteaters, but as long as Thompson can get just a little help from his teammates, he and the Titans should be in store for a solid road win tonight.
