Delaware (7-17) at William & Mary (16-7)

GAME NOTES: The Delaware Fighting Blue Hens head south to Williamsburg, Virginia for a Colonial Athletic Association clash with the William & Mary Tribe.

Delaware originally was supposed to face UNC-Wilmington on Saturday at the Bob Carpenter Center, but a snow storm delayed that meeting until Sunday, a date that was then shifted to Monday afternoon. Despite the changes in the schedule in the last few days, the Blue Hens still came up with the 69-62 victory against the Seahawks to snap a three-game slide.

As for the Tribe, they did get a chance to play their Saturday date against Georgia State on the road, picking up the 59-56 win in the process and the second victory in the last three outings to move to 8-5 in CAA play on the season.

Delaware entered the season owning a 15-6 edge in the all-time series with the Tribe, but W&M took a small bite out of that advantage by posting a 74-73 overtime victory in the first meeting back in early January in Newark.

In terms of offensive production, it was once again the Jawan Carter show in Newark as he tallied 23 points and handed out six assists in the win over UNCW on Monday afternoon. Giving Carter a hand was D.J. Boney with 11 points and six boards and Alphonso Dawson registered a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to help give the program a 40-33 edge on the glass. Carter, the leading scorer in five straight games for the Hens, is putting up 18.5 ppg at the moment, although his scoring has come at the expense of his weak field goal shooting of 38.4 percent. Because he handles the ball so much and forces the action, Carter has managed to convert 129-of-160 at the free- throw line, which means he has far more than twice as many makes as any one of his teammates has attempts at this stage of the season. Unfortunately, leaning on Carter so much of the time leaves the rest of the offense to flounder as it generates a mere 64.3 ppg.

Trailing by as many as nine points late in the first half, it took a little time for the Tribe to get moving, but the squad moved out to a three-point lead when it counted the most on Saturday. A layup by Marcus Kitts with under 30 seconds to play put W&M on top and a pair of free throws by Quinn McDowell shortly thereafter sealed the three-point victory. McDowell finished with a team-best 17 points, followed by David Schneider with 15 and nine boards, while Kitts and Sean McCurdy tallied 10 points apiece in the win. McDowell, the leading scorer in four of the last five games for the program, is currently second in that department with his 14.8 ppg, trailing only Schneider who is putting up 15.8 ppg while also clearing 6.1 rpg to lead in the department as well. However, Schneider is shooting only 36.6 percent from the field overall this season and that number drops to a mere 35.4 percent in conference play, which is also true for the team as well, falling off to 40.8 percent accuracy in league bouts.

In the first meeting of the season the Hens fought hard against W&M, but that was in front of the hometown crowd with so many more weapons available to come off the bench. Now with a depleted roster, chances are Delaware won't be so lucky.
