GAME NOTES: The Drexel Dragons shoot for their third straight win tonight as they challenge the Hofstra Pride in a Colonial Athletic Association battle at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, New York.
Winners of five of the last six outings, Drexel remains in the chase for one of the better records in the CAA this season, currently showing a 9-4 mark. The squad was in action on Saturday and defeated George Mason in a 73-60 final at home.
As for the Pride, they were enjoying their first three-game win streak since early December recently, but it came to an end over the weekend as the team got blown away by Northeastern, now the top team in the league, in a 75-55 final at home. Now 8-5 in their own building, the Pride are three games under .500 in conference at just 5-8.
With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Dragons own a 38-31 edge thanks in part to a 75-62 win in the most recent meeting last month in Philadelphia.
Chris Fouch came off the bench and tallied 17 points in only 22 minutes for the Dragons as they registered the 13-point home win over the weekend. Also hitting for double digits were Jamie Harris with 14 points and both Samme Givens and Gerald Colds with 10 apiece, the former also clearing seven rebounds to help out on the glass. Fouch, who became the first player in school history to be named both the CAA Player and Rookie of the Week in the same week on Monday, now finds himself ranked second on the team in scoring with 11.0 ppg and is by far the most productive perimeter shooter for the unit with his 56-of-139 (.403) and that's been huge because the team as a whole is making just 32.5 percent beyond the arc after 25 games. Harris is generating 14.2 ppg and leads the Dragons with 90 assists and even though he has made good on a team-best 82.1 percent of his free-throw attempts, Drexel as a whole is down to 63.8 percent right now.
Hofstra went from shooting only 37.5 percent from the field in the first half to a mere 7-of-28 after the break on Saturday against a streaking Northeastern squad that won by 20 points on the road. Charles Jenkins accounted for 14 points, despite shooting 3-of-11 from the floor, and Cornelius Vines and Miklos Szabo added 11 and 10 points, respectively, yet the team still ended up having just as many turnovers (19) as made field goals. Jenkins, who has scored in double figures in all but three games this season when he finished with just nine points each time out, is generating a team-best 18.8 ppg and has the top five scoring efforts of the season overall for the Pride. Unfortunately, when it comes to overall games this season, there is no one else on the roster who is scoring even 10 ppg, which is why the Pride is left with a mere 67.6 ppg. However, the good news is that the defense generally puts forth a strong effort with only 65.9 ppg allowed as well.
Unless Hofstra gets someone else to help Jenkins in the scoring department, the Pride are going to find themselves struggling both in this game and closing out the CAA schedule this season.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
