Florida (17-6) at South Carolina (13-9)

GAME NOTES: The Florida Gators have made the trip to Colonial Life Arena in Columbia for a Southeastern Conference clash with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Florida enters tonight's game with a wealth of confidence, as the team has won its last two outings and six of the last seven overall. The Gators are now 17-6 overall, including 6-3 in league action, and they are coming off a 69-62 decision over Mississippi State on Saturday.

As for South Carolina, it was completely demolished by Tennessee on Saturday, as the Gamecocks fell by a 79-53 final to drop to 1-6 in true road games. Fortunately, they are 10-2 at home, and they carry records of 13-9 overall and 4-4 in conference action into tonight's affair.

Florida owns a 36-20 series advantage over South Carolina, which includes wins in 20 of the last 24 meetings.

Through 23 games, the Gators are generating 72.3 ppg while allowing 63.2 ppg to opponents. There are five double-digit scorers on the UF roster, and Kenny Boynton paces the balanced attack with 14.1 ppg. Erving Walker and Alex Tyus are both netting 12.9 ppg, and while Walker is tops with 118 assists, Tyus leads the way with 6.9 rpg. Chandler Parsons (10.9 ppg) and Vernon Macklin (10.1 ppg) round out the group. In the recent triumph over Mississippi State, Macklin scored 20 points, while Parsons pitched in with 18 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Defensively, the Gators limited the Bulldogs to 38.3 percent shooting from the field, and a 16-8 edge in points from the foul line helped the cause as well.

South Carolina guard Devan Downey continues to make a strong case for SEC Player of the Year. The explosive guard has led his team in scoring in 11 consecutive games and is averaging 23.0 ppg to lead the conference by a comfortable margin. More than just a scorer, Downey also tops the Gamecocks with 3.5 apg and 65 steals. Brandis Raley-Ross is a solid second scoring option, but his 10.3 ppg aren't going to scare many opponents. Through 22 contests, USC is generating 73.7 ppg while allowing 69.4 ppg. On Saturday, Downey tallied 26 points against Tennessee, but his 5-of-20 shooting effort from the floor left much to be desired. Raley-Ross finished with 12 points for the Gamecocks, who shot just 27.6 percent from the floor.

While South Carolina has the advantage of playing at home, Florida is the more balanced team and will earn a hard-fought road victory. The Gamecocks have become a one-man team, and it is hard to win on a consistent basis that way.
