GAME NOTES: The St. Bonaventure Bonnies get a three-game homestand underway tonight, as they host the Fordham Rams in Atlantic 10 action at the Reilly Center.
The Bonnies have played four of their past five games on the road, winning just one of those bouts as the visitor. Most recently, the team was delivered a 78-71 setback at Saint Joseph's on Sunday for its fourth loss in a row. Now at just 9-12 overall, SBU returns back home, where it has gone a decent 6-3 thus far.
As for the Rams, their miserable season continued on Saturday with a 77-72 defeat to Charlotte. It was the 14th loss in a row, but it was at least a better performance than a 108-60 beating the team suffered at Xavier in its prior outing. Still, Fordham is a dismal 2-19 overall and winless in league play at 0-9.
Fordham does lead the head-to-head series with SBU, 16-12, and the squads split a pair of meetings a season ago.
The Rams went just 5-of-20 from beyond the arc and were outscored at the foul line, 26-21, as they were edged by Charlotte over the weekend. Chris Gaston had a huge game with a double-double of 32 points and 12 boards, while Brenton Butler had 15 points in the losing effort. It was the 13th double-double of the campaign for Gaston, who heads Fordham in scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.7 rpg). Butler is another scoring threat at 15.6 ppg, although he is shooting a less than impressive 33.4 percent from the field.
SBU turned the ball over 23 times and those mishaps resulted in 24 points for SJU in a 78-71 setback on Sunday. Jonathan Hall guided the team in defeat with a double-double of 24 points and 11 boards, while Andrew Nicholson had 19 points and nine rebounds. Nicholson is the team's top scorer (16.6 ppg) as well as rebounder (7.7 rpg) for the season and he also shoots 60.2 percent from the field. Hall follows with 12.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg, while Chris Matthews logs 11.2 ppg.
The Bonnies are in desperate need of a win and they should be able to get the job done tonight against a struggling Fordham club.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
