GAME NOTES: The Iowa State Cyclones and the Missouri Tigers are set to collide in a Big 12 Conference clash this evening.
Not much has gone right for Iowa State recently, as the team has lost its last two games and five of the last six to fall to 2-6 in Big 12 play, clearly overshadowing a 13-10 overall record. On Saturday, the Cyclones dropped a 79-75 decision to Kansas State, and the hope tonight is that the club can improve a 2-4 mark in true road games.
With wins in two of its last three outings, Missouri has improve to 17-6 overall and 5-3 in conference. The Tigers were clearly superior to Colorado in Saturday's 84-66 triumph, and while they are still just 2-4 in true road tilts, 13 of the 14 home games that they have played thus far have resulted in wins.
Missouri owns a 143-84 series lead over Iowa State, which includes wins in four of the last five meetings.
Craig Brackins has been the leading scorer for Iowa State in three consecutive outings, and he is scoring 17.0 ppg to go along with 8.1 rpg. As for Marquis Gilstrap, who has started all 23 games alongside Brackins, he contributes 14.7 ppg and 9.2 rpg. The Cyclones are generating 74.4 ppg while permitting 69.8 ppg to foes, but they are being outscored by nearly eight points per contest in league games alone. Brackins poured in 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the narrow loss to Kansas State over the weekend. Gilstrap finished with 18 points in that affair, and Diante Garrett contributed 10 points and five assists. The Cyclones shot only 36.1 percent from the field, including 5-of-23 from three-point range.
Kim English is the leading scorer for Missouri this season with 15.1 ppg, and Marcus Denmon checks in with 11.3 ppg. Laurence Bowers provides 10.8 ppg as the third and final double-digit scorer for the Tigers, who are posting 81.3 ppg. At the defensive end of the court, they are limiting opponents to 65.4 ppg on 40.1 percent efficiency. In the 18-point romp over Colorado State on Saturday, Denmon tallied 22 points behind a 4-of-6 effort from three-point range. English contributed 21 points, while Keith Ramsey and Justin Safford tallied 10 points apiece. Mizzou forced 16 turnovers and held the Buffaloes to 35.7 percent shooting from the field. A 49.1 percent shooting effort for the Tigers also helped the cause.
Expect Brackins and Gilstrap to play well as usual, although a road victory over Missouri is unlikely. Balanced scoring and solid defense will be the keys to success for the Tigers once again.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
