GAME NOTES: The hapless LSU Tigers have yet to win an SEC contest or a true road game this season, and they limp into Fayetteville tonight to battle the Arkansas Razorbacks.
LSU has lost nine consecutive decisions and 12 of the last 13 to plummet to 9-14 overall and 0-9 in league action. The Tigers were crushed by Kentucky on Saturday, 81-55, and four of the last five defeats have been by double digits.
As for Arkansas, it has posted four consecutive wins to move to 12-11 overall and 5-3 in league play. The Razorbacks showed a great deal of toughness to escape Saturday's overtime affair with Auburn on the positive end of an 82-79 decision. Of the 12 victories that Arkansas has posted this season, 10 have come at home.
Arkansas owns a 28-20 series advantage over LSU, but the Tigers won both meetings last season.
Tasmin Mitchell is scoring 17.3 ppg for LSU, and he is grabbing 9.6 rpg as well. Bo Spencer provides 15.5 ppg on 34.2 percent shooting from the field, and Storm Warren rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 12.2 ppg and 7.5 rpg. The Tigers are only generating 62.7 ppg this season on 40.6 percent shooting from the floor, including 27.3 percent from three-point range. Defensively, the club is allowing 66.4 ppg. Spencer exploded for 25 points against Kentucky last time out, but his 2-of-12 shooting from three-point range in that clash was far from impressive. Mitchell added 10 points for the Tigers, who connected on only 31.8 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-22 behind the arc. A 53-31 rebounding disadvantage clearly hurt the cause, as did a 16-9 deficit in points from the foul line.
Courtney Fortson missed the first 14 games this season for Arkansas, but he is averaging 20.2 ppg, 6.1 apg and 5.2 rpg since returning to the fold. Rotnei Clarke is now the club's second scoring option, as he is posting 16.5 ppg, and Marshawn Powell is close behind with his 15.3 ppg. As for Michael Washington, he checks in with 13.0 ppg. The Razorbacks are putting up 75.3 ppg, marginally better than the 73.5 ppg the team is allowing. In the thrilling win over Auburn last time out, Fortson posted 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Clarke tallied 12 points for Arkansas, which made good on 5-of-6 field goal attempts in the extra session and finished the game with a 20-7 edge in points from the foul line.
Expect Arkansas to win this game, keeping LSU winless in SEC and road tilts. The Tigers simply do not know how to close the deal.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
