Richmond (18-6) at Rhode Island (19-3)

GAME NOTES: A pivotal Atlantic 10 matchup will take place this evening when the Rhode Island Rams host the Richmond Spiders at the Thomas F. Ryan Center.

The Spiders head into this matchup riding a four-game winning streak. Richmond, which has posted a win in eight of its last 10 matchups, pushed its league mark to 7-2 on the season with a 71-54 decision over Temple on Saturday.

The Rams are also rolling into this matchup with a nice streak, winning four consecutive matchups. The last time Rhode Island was on the floor the team grabbed a 93-85 victory over Massachusetts, pushing its league mark to 7-2 on the year.

The Spiders own a 9-5 edge over Rhode Island in the all-time series, but the Rams have captured all five of their victories at home.

The Spiders can attribute their success to their play defensively, as they are holding opponents to just 60.1 ppg and a meager 38.4 percent shooting effort. Richmond's tenacious defensive play continued in its recent win over Temple, as the Spiders held the Owls to just 54 points on a 32.1 percent shooting effort. At the other end of the floor the team was paced by Kevin Anderson, who exploded for 29 points. David Gonzalvez added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Ryan Butler contributed 12 points. Anderson has been the top player on the floor for Richmond, as the guard is leading the team with 17.7 ppg and 64 assists. Gonzalvez is contributing 13.1 ppg, while Justin Harper is helping out with 10.4 ppg and a team-high 5.5 rpg.

The Rams are one of the most dangerous teams in the Atlantic 10 offensively, producing 78.8 ppg behind a healthy 46.1 percent shooting effort. Keith Cothran is pacing the squad with 15.8 ppg, while Delroy James is contributing 13.7 ppg. Taking care of business down low has been Lamonte Ulmer, who is posting 12.2 ppg, to go along with a team-best 7.5 rpg. Rhode Island continued its outstanding offensive play in its recent win over Massachusetts, as the team shot 45.3 percent from the floor, and connected on 27-of-33 attempts from the foul line. Akeem Richmond led the way with 19 points off the bench, while Ulmer finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. James and Will Martell contributed 13 points apiece, while Cothran tallied 10 points, seven assists and five steals.

The Spiders have relied heavily on their play defensively, but the Rams are tough at home and simply have too many weapons. Look for Rhode Island to put up enough points to down Richmond this evening.
