GAME NOTES: The Tulsa Golden Hurricane will try to remain perfect at home tonight, as they host the surging Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in a Conference USA tilt at the Reynolds Center.
The Hurricane enter the contest on a losing note, as they suffered a 73-59 setback at Texas-El Paso on Saturday in a battle for first place. The loss ended a two-game win streak and dropped Tulsa into a tie for second place at 7-2. Now at 18-5 overall, the Hurricane return back home, where they have gone a flawless 14-0 this season.
The Eagles meanwhile, have bounced back from an 0-4 start to conference play by winning each of their last four outings. On Saturday, USM captured a dramatic 57-55 win at Houston to improve to 14-8 overall and a level 5-5 on the road.
As for the all-time series, Tulsa holds a 4-3 edge over USM and that includes a 3-1 mark when playing at home.
Torye Pelham tipped in his own miss at the buzzer, lifting USM to a thrilling 57-55 win over Houston on Saturday. Pelham had 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass in the game, and he finished with six points. Gary Flowers headed the charge with 15 points and six boards, while Sai'Quon Stone and R.L. Horton chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively. For the season, Flowers ranks first in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg) and he also has 44 blocks to his credit. Maurice Bolden follows Flowers in both departments with 10.0 ppg and 6.1 rpg.
The Hurricane went a dismal 18-of-31 at the foul line and lost the battle on the boards, 38-29, in a 73-59 setback at UTEP this past weekend. Jerome Jordan paced the team in defeat with 20 points and five boards. Ben Uzoh was limited to just seven points, but he did have eight assists and seven rebounds. A jack of all traders, Uzoh leads Tulsa in scoring (15.4 ppg) and assists (4.2 apg), to go along with 4.7 rpg. Jordan, a seven-foot center, comes in with 15.0 ppg and a team-high 8.2 rpg, while Justin Hurtt tacks on 14.0 ppg behind 41.7 percent shooting from three-point distance.
Tulsa is coming off a disappointing result, but this is a talented squad that should be able to bounce back at home, where it has yet to be defeated.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
