Arkansas State (14-9) at Western Kentucky (13-12)

GAME NOTES: The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers bring their three-game homestand to a close tonight, as they tangle with the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Sun Belt Conference action at E.A. Diddle Arena.

The Toppers stepped out of conference play on Tuesday, only to suffer a tough 74-72 loss to Houston. It was the second loss in three games for WKU, which dropped to 13-12 overall and 10-4 at home. The team now returns back to SBC play, where it has gone an even 6-6 thus far.

As for the Red Wolves, they have split the first two games on a current three- game road trip. After losing narrowly at Arkansas-Little Rock (79-77), ASU rebounded with a 66-52 triumph at New Orleans on Saturday. The squad has now won three of four games to improve to 14-9 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

In regard to the all-time series, WKU holds a 26-11 advantage over ASU and that includes a 68-63 win in last season's meeting.

ASU connected on 53.3 percent of its attempts from the floor and 6-of-14 from long range, as it pushed its way past New Orleans over the weekend. The Red Wolves also hit on 12-of-17 free throws, in addition to distributing 21 assists. Brandon Peterson led the charge with 16 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the floor, while Martavius Adams notched a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. Brandon Reed had an off night with just three points, but despite that effort, he still paces ASU in scoring with 14.8 ppg for the season. Daniel Bryant is next with 12.1 ppg off the bench, while Adams turns in 11.2 ppg and a team-high 7.2 rpg.

Houston's Kelvin Lewis made two free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining, sending WKU to a heart-breaking 74-72 loss on Tuesday. It was a disappointing finish for the Hilltoppers, whose 11 turnovers resulted in 16 points for Houston. Sergio Kerusch guided the squad in the loss with 19 points and six boards, while Steffphon Pettigrew and A.J. Slaughter followed with 18 and 17 points, respectively. On the season, Slaughter leads WKU in scoring at 17.0 ppg and he is also dishing out a team-best 4.0 apg. Pettigrew logs 15.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg for the Toppers, while Kerusch produces 13.5 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Jeremy Evans chips in with 10.1 ppg and he is also the team's leading rebounder at 7.4 rpg.

The Hilltoppers are coming off another narrow defeat, but they are solid team and capable for bouncing back with a win tonight.
