Denver (14-9) at Middle Tennessee (14-11)

GAME NOTES: The Denver Pioneers shoot for just their second true road win of 2009-10 tonight as they challenge the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in Sun Belt Conference action at the Murphy Center.

Denver, which is in the middle of the pack when it comes to the West Division of the Sun Belt standings with a record of 7-5, snapped a two-game slide last Saturday with a 73-63 victory over Florida Atlantic. The win was just the second in the last four outings for the program.

As for the Blue Raiders, they've been playing much better of late with six wins in seven tries, the lone setback being a 70-67 defeat at the hands of Troy last week at this time. On Saturday, Middle Tennessee got back into the win column with an 80-68 decision over South Alabama on the road.

The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series with Denver by a 7-5 count heading into tonight's meeting.

Nate Rohnert led three Denver players in double figures as he scored a game- high 25 points last Saturday, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 10-of-13 at the free-throw line in the win over FAU at home. Chase Hallam added 11 points and Kyle Lewis another 10 as the team shot a staggering 68.4 percent from the field in the first half and finished the contest at 61.1 percent, not to mention an incredible 10-of-14 behind the three-point line. Over the course of 12 conference games this season, Rohnert has led the charge with his 13.8 ppg, stemming from his 51.4 percent shooting from the field. Brian Stafford checks in with 12.0 ppg in those meeting as the Pioneers deliver a modest 64 ppg. While the team's production doesn't sound that great, at the same time it is allowing only 61.8 ppg, so it seems to be working in the Pioneers' favor, at least for the moment.

The Blue Raiders did almost everything right in their meeting with South Alabama last weekend, from shooting 8-of-16 behind the three-point line, to 26-of-30 at the charity stripe and suffering only seven turnovers while forcing 15. James Washington led four players in double figures with his 18 points, followed by Desmond Yates with 16 points, Montarrio Haddock 13 and James Gallman 11 of the bench. In conference play, the Blue Raiders have produced just 66.5 ppg, but they have also allowed a mere 60.8 ppg on 30.3 percent shooting behind the three-point line. Yates and Haddock are both averaging 13.8 ppg to lead the way, the former doing quite a bit of damage beyond the arc where he has converted 17-of-36 (.472). As a team, Middle Tennessee is shooting close to 38 percent out on the perimeter in SBC games this season.

The fact that Denver has not played well on the road this season makes it tough to lean in favor of the Pioneers in this one.
