GAME NOTES: Sun Belt Conference action will take place this evening when the South Alabama Jaguars host the FIU Golden Panthers at the Mitchell Center.

The last time the Golden Panthers were on the floor the team suffered a 68-66 setback to North Texas. It was the third straight loss for FIU, which is now just 4-9 in league action.

As for the Jaguars, they have lost five of their last six matchups, including an 80-68 setback to Middle Tennessee on Saturday. The loss to the Blue Raiders dropped South Alabama to just 6-6 at home and 5-8 in Sun Belt play.

Earlier this season the Jaguars posted a 71-59 victory over FIU, and now own a 15-5 edge over the Golden Panthers in the all-time series.

The Golden Panthers have been mildly inconsistent on the season, as the team is netting just 67.8 ppg, behind a 41.4 percent shooting effort. Marvin Roberts has been the top player on the floor for FIU, leading the team with 15.7 ppg. Phil Gary has been a solid option in the backcourt, netting 10.0 ppg, to go along with a team-high 79 assists. The last time FIU was on the floor the team suffered a two-point setback to North Texas. The Golden Panthers shot a mediocre 41.0 percent from the floor and made just 8-of-16 attempts from the foul line. Roberts led the way in the loss with 16 points, while Gary added 15 points.

The Jaguars have relied heavily on the play of Tim Williams, who is leading the squad with 15.5 ppg and 7.6 rpg. However, Williams has received help from Martino Brock and Bryan Sherrer. Brock is averaging 11.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg, while Sherrer is posting 10.6 ppg. The Jaguars finished with just 68 points in their recent loss to Middle Tennessee. South Alabama shot 44.6 percent from the field and made 9-of-24 shots from behind the arc. Williams led the way with 16 points, while Sherrer tallied 14 points. As for Brock, he posted 12 points, to go along with five assists, but committed five turnovers.

Both teams have been inconsistent offensively, but the Jaguars are home in this battle and have enjoyed plenty of success against FIU.
