GAME NOTES: The Morehead State Eagles will try to remain in the win column when they take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers this evening in an Ohio Valley Conference tussle at Lantz Arena.
The Eagles pushed their league mark to 11-2 on the season with an 84-75 victory over Tennessee Tech in their last contest. It was the 13th win in the last 14 games for Morehead State, which is 6-5 on the road this season.
The Panthers come into this matchup fresh off a 75-49 victory over Southeast Missouri State. The win snapped a two-game slide for Eastern Illinois and also pushed the team's conference record to 6-7 on the season.
Earlier this season the Eagles defeated EIU, 73-51. Despite the loss, the Panthers hold a solid 18-8 edge over Morehead State in the all-time series.
The Eagles soared in their last matchup, as the team scored 84 points behind a 51.9 percent shooting effort. The team also connected on 24-of-37 attempts from the foul line in the nine-point win over Tennessee Tech. Kenneth Faried led the way with a double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds, while Steve Peterson tallied 20 points. Demonte Harper contributed 17 points, while Brandon Shingles chipped in 13 points. Faried has been one of the top players not only for Morehead State, but in the entire conference and is leading the team with 17.2 ppg and 13.7 rpg. Harper is contributing 12.3 ppg on the year, while Maze Stallworth is posting 12.0 ppg for Morehead State, which as a whole is netting 70.8 ppg.
The Panthers shot 50.8 percent from the floor the last time they were in action as they grabbed an easy victory over Southeast Missouri State. Jeremy Granger scored 19 points and dished out five assists in the win, while James Hollowell tallied 10 points. Tyler Laser is lead in the team offensively on the season however, as the guard is posting 14.0 ppg. Granger is the only other player netting double figures for EIU, as the guard is netting 10.0 ppg, to go along with 64 assists. As a whole however, the team heads into this game netting 66.7 ppg.
The Eagles are flying high at this point of the season and should continue to soar this evening against Eastern Illinois.
