GAME NOTES: The struggling Pepperdine Waves play the second of three straight games on the road tonight, as they battle the San Francisco Dons in a West Coast Conference bout at War Memorial Gymnasium.
It wasn't too long ago that the Waves were 3-0 and taking on Gonzaga for conference supremacy. A hard fought loss to Gonzaga in that first-place clash sent Pepperdine spiraling however, and the team is now looking to break out of a five-game slide. The team was recently defeated, 77-61, at Loyola Marymount on Saturday to fall to 0-8 on the road.
As for the Dons, they return after a two-game road trip that ended with a 73-57 loss at Saint Mary's on Saturday. The setback ended a short two-game win streak and dropped USF to 9-15 overall and 4-5 within the conference.
USF leads the all-time series with Pepperdine, 68-42, but the Waves captured an 83-68 decision in the first meeting of the season.
The Waves shot a lackluster 35.3 percent from the floor compared to a much better 50.0 percent effort by LMU, as they were handled over the weekend. Pepperdine also coughed up the ball 14 times and those mishaps directly resulted in 20 points for LMU. Mychel Thompson had 18 points in the losing cause, while Keion Bell posted 13 points and six rebounds. On the season, Bell leads the Waves in scoring with a hardy 19.5 ppg and he is also grabbing 5.3 rpg and dishing out 3.8 apg. Thompson is next in line at 12.5 ppg and he snares 5.4 rpg, while shooting 36.4 percent from downtown.
The Dons were only able to make 33.9 percent of their attempts from the field and that simply wasn't enough in a loss to SMC on Saturday. The team also had 15 turnovers against only eight assists. Dior Lowhorn was the lone bright spot for USF, as he poured in 25 points and ripped down eight caroms. It was another terrific performance from Lowhorn, who tops the squad in scoring (18.2 ppg) as well as rebounding (6.6 rpg) on the season. Kwame Vaughn gives Lowhorn some support, as he checks in with 13.1 ppg and 4.2 rpg.
USF has the edge since it's hosting this game, so expect Lowhorn to lead the way as he has done all season long.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
