GAME NOTES: Fresh off their first league win of the season, the Tennessee- Martin Skyhawks battle the Jacksonville State Gamecocks this evening at the Pete Mathews Coliseum.

The Skyhawks opened league play with 12 straight losses, but on Tuesday night the team collected a 73-70 victory over Southeast Missouri State. The win snapped a three-game losing skid for UT-Martin, which is winless in 11 games on the road this season.

The Gamecocks fell to 6-7 in conference play with a 66-65 loss to Eastern Kentucky in their last matchup. It was the second straight loss for Jacksonville State, which has collected nine of its 10 victories at home.

Jacksonville State owns a comfortable 33-18 edge over Tennessee-Martin in the all-time series, and that includes a 73-63 victory over the Skyhawks earlier this season.

The Skyhawks have struggled offensively this season, as the team is producing just 64.7 ppg, behind a lackluster 37.9 percent shooting effort. Marquis Weddle has missed plenty of time this season, but the guard is still leading the team with 16.8 ppg. Benzor Simmons has been solid in the paint for UTM, as the forward is posting 13.3 ppg, to go along with 5.7 rpg. In the team's recent win over Southeast Missouri State, the Skyhawks shot 46.0 percent from the floor and connected on 22-of-28 attempts from the foul line. Weddle led the way in the win with 15 points, while Reuben Clayton tallied 12 points and seven assists.

The last time the Gamecocks were on the floor the team shot 46.0 percent from the floor but finished 3-of-14 from long range, en route to a loss to Eastern Kentucky. Trenton Marshall paced the team with 19 points, while Nick Murphy tallied 15 points and six rebounds. Jeremy Bynum contributed 13 points in the loss. Marshall is not only leading the team with 18.3 ppg, but the guard is also posting 5.5 rpg and has dished out 53 assists. Murphy is posting 14.0 ppg and pulling down a team-high 6.8 rpg for JSU, which is netting 71.7 ppg, behind a 44.9 percent shooting effort.

The Skyhawks finally broke into the win column in league action, but their stay there will be short-lived as the Gamecocks should be victorious at home this evening.
