GAME NOTES: Weber State will try to remain on top of the Big Sky Conference when the Wildcats host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks this evening at the Dee Events Center.
The Lumberjacks are coming off a tough, 70-63 overtime loss to Northern Colorado, in their last matchup. It was the second consecutive loss for Northern Arizona, which is a mere 5-6 in conference play.
Weber State pushed its league mark to 9-2 on the year with a 75-71 decision over Montana State on Saturday. It was the sixth win in the last seven games for Weber State, which is 9-1 at home this year.
The Wildcats have dominated the Lumberjacks in the all-time series, winning 65 of the 90 meetings, and that includes an 87-62 win earlier this season.
The Lumberjacks tallied just 63 points in their overtime loss to Northern Colorado on Sunday. NAU shot 41.7 percent from the field, but finished just 2- of-14 from long range, and also struggled from the charity stripe, netting only 11-of-20 attempts. NAU also committed 22 turnovers, which turned into 27 points for the Bears. Cameron Jones led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds, while DeAngelo Jones posted 16 points. Shane Johannsen contributed 13 points in the loss. Cameron Jones has been the best player on the floor for NAU, as the guard is pacing the team with 18.5 ppg, to go along with 5.0 rpg. Johannsen is helping out with 11.0 ppg and 5.4 rpg for NAU, which as a whole is producing 69.8 ppg.
The Wildcats have been one of the best offensive teams in the conference, thanks in large part to Damian Lillard, who is pacing the team with 20.2 ppg and 3.4 apg. Steve Panos is helping out with 11.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg on the season. Franklin Session is posting 10.5 ppg and a team-best 6.4 rpg for Weber State, which is averaging 76.3 ppg as a whole. The last time the Wildcats were in action the team shot 47.3 percent from the floor, en route to a four-point win over Montana State. Lillard led the way with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Session added 14 points. Trevor Morris and Kyle Bullinger contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
The Wildcats are clearly the elite team in the conference, and should have no trouble continuing their dominance over Northern Arizona.
