Boise State (11-13) at Nevada (14-9)

GAME NOTES: Currently last in the Western Athletic Conference standings, the Boise State Broncos try to break a two-game slide tonight as they visit the Nevada Wolf Pack at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

Boise State has suffered heavily in conference play this season with a mere two wins in 11 chances. Two nights ago, BSU was handed a 72-67 defeat by league-leading Utah State at home in Taco Bell Arena. The only two league wins for the Broncos came against Idaho (in overtime) and Fresno State during the final week of January.

Meanwhile, the Wolf Pack were on the road three nights ago and needed a minor miracle to pull off a 67-66 win over the Idaho Vandals in Moscow. The victory was the second in the last three outings for Nevada, which is now in the middle of the pack in the WAC with a 6-4 record.

Nevada won the first meeting of the season with Boise State last month in Idaho by a score of 88-82, which means the Wolf Pack has now taken three in a row and seven of the last nine with the Broncos to extend their advantage in the all-time series to 36-20.

Boise State shot 52 percent from the field and 5-of-8 beyond the arc in the first half against the Aggies on Thursday night, but the squad failed to get to the free-throw line even once in the opening frame, a fact that may have kept the Broncos from the win column. Anthony Thomas posted a team-best 15 points and handed out five assists, followed by Ike Okoye and Daequon Montreal with 12 and 10 points, respectively. As the only player on the roster to have started all 24 games this season for the Broncos, it only makes sense that Okoye is also the top scorer for the program with his 12.8 ppg and is also tops on the glass with eight and a half rebounds per game as well. La'Shard Anderson chips in with 11.0 ppg and has delivered 91 assists, while making 60 steals for a squad that is outscoring opponents by a mere one-tenth of a point at the moment.

Armon Johnson led the Wolf Pack with 23 points, but none were more important than the three he tallied with just 2.9 seconds remaining as he gave Nevada the one-point win versus Idaho. Also scoring in double figures for the Pack was Luke Babbitt with 21 points, to go along with seven rebounds and four assists, while Brandon Fields contributed another 11 points for a squad that shot a solid 10-of-20 behind the three-point line on the night. Over the course of 10 conference games this season Babbitt, who is clearly a leader for WAC Player of the Year honors, is averaging a double-double with 23.4 ppg and 10.0 rpg. But what makes his game so unusual is that, as a big man, he is just as comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter where he has knocked down 14-of-28 in league play, as he is at the free-throw line with his 87.3 percent accuracy. Thrown in Johnson (15.2 ppg) and Fields (13.9 ppg) and you have one of the strongest trios in the WAC this season.

The Broncos put up a fight on Thursday night, but coming up just short against the best team in the WAC had to have taken a lot out of them. Add to that a road trip to Nevada for this meeting and BSU is at a clear disadvantage.
