GAME NOTES: Needing just one more Ivy League win to reach 300 all-time, the Dartmouth Big Green give it another go tonight as they visit the Yale Bulldogs at the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Connecticut.
Unfortunately for the Big Green, the team has been suffering from a six-game slide that has prevented them from finally reaching that elusive league victory. On Friday night, the team was handed a 75-60 loss by the Brown Bears on the road, dropping the team to 0-10 away from home thus far.
As for the Bulldogs, they took part in their first overtime game of the season last night and were handed an 82-79 loss by the visiting Harvard Crimson. The setback was the third in the last four games for Yale, which is now just 3-4 in conference.
The Bulldogs own a slight 99-95 lead in the all-time series with Dartmouth, a relationship that dates back to the very first varsity season for the Big Green in 1900-01.
Matt LaBove played just 19 minutes for Dartmouth last night, yet he was the only player on the squad to score in double figures with his 12 points, adding a solid six rebounds to his stat line as well. Before fouling out, Clive Weeden chipped in nine points and nine boards for a team that shot just 40 percent from the field, 12-of-19 at the free-throw line and missed all seven chances behind the three-point line on the night. At this stage of the season the Big Green don't have a single player averaging double figures, with Ronnie Dixon leading the group with his 8.0 ppg while shooting only 30.2 percent from three-point range. LaBove (5.3 ppg) may just be a freshman, but he is also the top rebounder at the moment for Dartmouth with almost five boards per contest, his 26 offensive rebounds second only to Weeden (4.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg) who has cleared 37 boards at that end of the floor.
In a game that saw 13 ties and 12 lead changes last night, Yale hurt itself with just 5-of-19 shooting behind the three-point line in the three-point overtime loss to Harvard. Alex Zampier did all he could to keep the Bulldogs competitive with his 32 points, making all but one of his 15 free throws, but it was his mere 2-of-11 effort beyond the arc that kept the squad from reaching the win column. Greg Mangano came off the bench to post 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots, while Jordan Gibson and Michael Sands both chipped in 10 points in the loss. One of the top scorers in the Ivy this season, Zampier is coming up with 18.1 ppg for the Bulldogs, thanks in large part to his 88.7 percent accuracy at the charity stripe. Sans checks in with 10.3 ppg as he too has had great success at the stripe (86-of-116) thus far.
Without much of an offense to speak of these days, in addition to being on the road again tonight where it has had no easy games, expect to see Dartmouth suffer yet again.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
