GAME NOTES: Two teams with a lot at stake will collide when the Western Carolina Catamounts entertain the Davidson Wildcats in a Southern Conference clash in Cullowhee. .

Davidson was a 66-56 loser at Appalachian State on Thursday night. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak, as the Wildcats stand at 12-12 overall, and in third place in the SoCon's South Division with a 7-5 mark. They start the weekend two-and-a-half games out of second place and a first-round bye in the conference tournament with six league games remaining. Davidson is 3-4 in true road games this season, and a mere 4-8 outside the confines of its own gym.

Western Carolina was an 81-76 upset loser at Elon on Monday in its last start. It was the Catamounts' second straight loss and third in their last five games. They stand at 18-7 overall and are in second place in the SoCon's North Division with an 8-5 mark. The Catamounts are 12-1 at home this season.

This will mark the 55th meeting between the two schools. Western Carolina defeated the Wildcats 77-67 at Davidson on January 20th, but Davidson still leads the series, 35-19.

Davidson got 15 points from Bryant Barr in its loss on Thursday. Jake Cohen and Will Archambault also got involved, netting 10 points apiece for the Wildcats. Davidson led 30-28 at halftime, but Appalachian State shot 60.9 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes. Cohen is the top scorer on the ballclub at 12.7 ppg. He's shooting 48.0 percent from the floor, but just 30.9 percent from three-point range, and only 64.9 percent from the foul line. J.P. Kuhlman is at 12.6 ppg, thanks in part to his 44.8-percent effort from three-point range. Archambault is contributing 11.5 ppg, while Brendan McKillop is also in double figures at 10.4 points per contest. Steve Rossiter is the leading rebounder on the roster at 6.3 rpg. McKillop, at 4.0 apg, and Kuhlman, at 3.3 apg, are fifth and eighth respectively in the conference in that category. Davidson is scoring 71.8 ppg, while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor. The Wildcats are allowing 68.8 points per game defensively. Opponents are shooting 43.0 percent from the floor against them.

Brandon Giles scored 18 points in Western Carolina's surprise loss on Monday. The Catamounts also received 14 points apiece from Harouna Mutombo and Jake Robinson. Elon shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and led 39-23 at intermission. Western Carolina hurt its cause by committing 17 turnovers. Robinson continues to lead the ballclub in scoring at 12.4 ppg. He's shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from long range, as well as 78.8 percent from the foul line. Giles is next at 12 .1 ppg, hitting 41.4 percent from the floor. Mike Williams is also in double figures at 11.0 ppg. Harouna Mutombo is the top rebounder on the roster, but he's pulling down just 4.8 boards per contest. Brigham Waginger is second in the conference in assists at 4.6 apg.
