Georgia State (10-16) at Towson (6-18)

GAME NOTES: Even though the university remains closed, the Towson men's basketball team still intends to hit the floor at the Towson Center this afternoon against Colonial Athletic Association foe Georgia State.

Towson, which has had to deal with changes in their schedule recently due to winter storms that have ripped through the area, has lost two of the last three outings now, including an 80-72 setback against UNC Wilmington on Thursday afternoon. For the Tigers, the loss sent them to 3-11 in conference play and, entering the weekend, meant they were tied with both Delaware and James Madison for last place in the CAA standings.

Meanwhile, the Panthers, who are a mere 4-10 in league action, they were dealt a 62-53 defeat at the hands of the Northeastern Huskies three nights ago. The loss was the second in a row and the fifth in six games for GSU.

Georgia State won the first meeting of the season by a score of 70-61 at home during the first week of the new calendar year, which means the all-time series is now tied at five games apiece as a result. The home team has won seven straight in the series.

Trey Hampton scored eight straight points early in the meeting with Northeastern earlier in the week, but he finished with 16 and the Panthers ended up on the losing end of a nine-point decision. Also scoring in double figures for the program was Ousman Krubally who came off the bench and accounted for 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds before fouling out. Perhaps most surprising of all was leading scorer Joe Dukes who missed all six of his field goal attempts and failed to score a single point in the meeting. Dukes, just a 40.7 percent shooter from the field who is a woeful 21.1 percent behind the three-point line, remains the top scorer with his 12.8 ppg, while Trae Goldston accounts for another 10.8 ppg as the only other double-digit scorer for the Panther right now. In terms of overall offense, GSU is producing only 60.7 ppg, but at least the team is keeping things interesting with just 62.0 ppg allowed.

With their schedule thrown out of whack because of the recent snow storms that have hammered the east coast, the Tigers didn't stand much of a chance as they took on the Seahawks at home a couple days ago, especially as they played in the middle of the afternoon in front of a crowd of barely 400. Robert Nwankwo and Calvin Lee both tallied 15 points for the locals, while Troy Franklin came off the bench to offer up another 14 points in the setback as well. Conference games have been torture for Towson this season with the team shooting not only 39.2 percent from the floor and 28.3 percent behind the three-point line, but also 66.4 percent at the charity stripe to arrive at 62.9 ppg. If the squad wasn't giving up 77.1 ppg in those 14 outings perhaps it wouldn't look so bad on paper, but having Lee and Jarrel Smith as the high scorers for the group with a mere 10.4 ppg each, there's little hope for the Tigers down the stretch.

Neither team is going to dazzle at the offensive end, so it will be a case of which squad makes the fewest mistakes.
