GAME NOTES: Two teams on a roll meet up at War Memorial Gymnasium tonight, as the Loyola Marymount Lions tangle with the San Francisco Dons in a West Coast Conference tilt.
The Lions have won two straight and three of their last four outings to pull themselves over the .500 mark at 13-12 overall. On Thursday, LMU picked up a 73-67 victory at Santa Clara to improve to 4-5 in conference play.
As for the Dons, they are coming off their most convincing WCC victory of the season, a 77-47 whipping of Pepperdine on Thursday. It marked the third triumph in four games for USF, which is now a level 5-5 in conference play.
USF owns a commanding 101-35 advantage in the all-time series with LMU and that includes a 70-67 win in the first meeting of the season.
The Lions dropped in 44.6 percent of their attempts from the floor and scored 20 points off 15 Santa Clara turnovers in a 73-67 win on Thursday. Drew Viney led the charge with 20 points and six boards, while Kevin Young, Jarred DuBois and Vernon Teel all had 14 points. A well rounded player, Viney is a 42.7 percent three-point shooter who leads the Lions in each scoring (17.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) on the season. Teel, another versatile player, turns in 14.4 ppg, to go along with 5.4 rpg and a team-high 6.2 apg.
In a simply dominant effort, the Dons hit on 45.3 percent of their field goals and 22-of-26 free throws in a 77-47 rout of Pepperdine on Thursday. USF also dominated the boards, 43-31, in addition to holding Pepperdine to a dismal 30.5 percent shooting effort from the floor. Angelo Caloiaro went 5-of-7 from downtown on his way to a career-best 21 points, while Dior Lowhorn notched 18 points and seven rebounds. Lowhorn is the go-to-guy for this USF squad, as he leads the team in scoring (18.2 ppg) as well as rebounding (6.6 rpg). Kwame Vaughn helps Lowhorn and the rest of the club with 13.0 ppg and 4.1 rpg for the season.
Both squads are playing well at the moment, but the Dons are at home tonight and that should give them the edge they need to pull off the victory.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
