GAME NOTES: The Miami-Florida Hurricanes will try to solve some of their road woes today, as they invade Littlejohn Coliseum to take on the Clemson Tigers in an ACC affair.
The Hurricanes have had little trouble at home, winning 11 of 12 games, including a thrilling 64-62 upset of No. 20 Georgia Tech on Wednesday. The win put an end to a two-game slide and pushed Miami to 17-7 overall. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes are still just 3-7 in ACC play, as they have struggled on the road, going 0-6 in league action as the visiting team.
As for Clemson, it too is coming off a quality win, posting a 77-67 result against Florida State on Wednesday. It marked just the second win in the past six games for the Tigers, who are now 17-7 overall and a level 5-5 within the conference.
The Tigers lead the head-to-head series with Miami, 8-6, and that includes a 91-72 victory in last season's meeting.
James Dews buried a 15-footer at the buzzer, lifting Miami to a dramatic 64-62 win over Georgia Tech on Wednesday. It was a game-saving shot, as the Hurricanes led by as many as 14 points in the second half. Dews finished with just six points, while Dwayne Collins led Miami with a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards. On the season, Dews is averaging a much better 12.3 ppg to lead Miami. Collins adds 11.8 ppg and a team-best 8.3 rpg to the equation, while Malcolm Grant contributes 10.0 ppg and 3.4 apg.
The Tigers drained 8-of-20 shots from beyond the arc and 29-of-38 at the foul line, as they defeated Florida State on Wednesday. David Potter and Andre Young both tallied 19 points to lead the charge, while Trevor Booker had 13 and four boards. Booker is the go-to-guy for this Clemson squad, as he paces the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) as well as rebounding (8.2 rpg) for the season. Demontez Stitt chips in with 10.6 ppg and he has been responsible for setting up Booker and company, dishing off a team-high 3.2 apg.
Go with the Tigers today, as they are a solid home team playing against a Miami club that has struggled on the road.
