Morehead State (17-8) at SE Missouri State (7-18)

GAME NOTES: Hoping to bounce back from a tough loss earlier this week, the Morehead State Eagles will try to take out their frustrations on the struggling Southeast Missouri State Redhawks in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt tonight at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.

At 17-8 overall and 11-3 in league play, the Eagles currently occupy second place in the OVC standings behind the Murray State Racers, who remain unbeaten in the conference. However, they are coming off a 76-75 loss at Eastern Illinois on Thursday, in which the Panthers hit a pair of free throws in the final second after MSU called a timeout it did not have. With four games remaining on their schedule, the Eagles likely won't catch Murray State, though they can lock up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming OVC Tournament.

Southeast Missouri State is at the opposite end of the spectrum, having lost three straight and six of its last seven overall. The Redhawks fell at home to Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, 59-56. Following tonight's action, they'll hit the road to take on Murray State and Miami-Ohio in the upcoming week.

These teams met a month ago in Morehead, Kentucky, and the Eagles cruised to an 80-40 victory. They've won 13 of the last 16 meetings with SEMO to take a 20-16 series edge.

Morehead State head coach Donnie Tyndall said after Thursday's game that he reminded his players they were out of timeouts when they broke the final huddle. But for one reason or another that message did not translate. And given the way Murray State has played this season, the loss most likely ended any hopes for the Eagles to claim the regular-season OVC crown. Kenneth Faried registered a team-high 19 points for Morehead State, though he failed to post a double-double for the first time in the last 10 games. Maze Stallworth added 18 points in the loss, while Demonte Harper scored 15 off the bench. On the season, Faried is tallying 17.2 points and 13.4 rebounds per contest, and he is averaging 14.7 boards in OVC play. Harper is next in line with 12.5 ppg, followed by Stallworth with 12.3 ppg.

Despite their recent struggles, there is no quit in the Redhawks. Trailing by 19 with 14 minutes to play on Thursday night, they went on a 25-8 run to make it a two-point game with less than two minutes remaining. EKU kept the Redhawks in the game by missing 3-of-4 foul shots over the final 13 seconds, but Anthony Allison's three-pointer at the top of the key clanked off the rim as time expired. Allison finished with 20 points but was the only double-digit scorer for the Redhawks, who shot 36.5 percent as a team. Scoring has been a problem for virtually the entire season, as Allison's 10.8 ppg represents a team-high. The Redhawks are shooting just 42.2 percent as a team, and they are being outscored by an average of 7.5 ppg.

Morehead State won by 40 when these teams met a month ago. Despite flip- flopping home courts, it's tough to envision a much different outcome in the rematch unless Allison gets some serious help at the offensive end.
