GAME NOTES: The 14th-ranked Texas Longhorns will attempt to turn things around in Austin this afternoon, as they welcome the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the Erwin Center for the Big 12 matchup.

Rick Barnes' Longhorns were once the top team in the country and looked the part of a Big 12 champion. However, the team has hit a wall of late, with losses in two straight and three of its last four games. Texas had a chance to right the ship in a big way on Monday, but fell 68-60 to top-ranked Kansas in Austin. The loss has dropped Texas to a meager 5-4 in league play.

The Cornhuskers are just two games over .500 on the season, but have really had their problems in Big 12 play, residing in the conference cellar at an ugly 1-8. Nebraska enters this contest following three straight losses, including a heart-breaking 55-53 setback at home to Baylor. This game represents the fourth straight ranked opponent for Nebraska.

This is the 21st all-time meeting between these two teams, with Texas claiming victory in 15 of the previous 20 tilts. The Longhorns are a perfect 10-0 in this series in Austin.

The Cornhuskers problems this season have been a result of a lack of scoring punch. In the Big 12 particularly, scoring is a must, and Nebraska's modest 65.8 ppg is just not getting the job done. In fact, the team is dead-last in the Big 12 in scoring. Nebraska is shooting .444 from the field and a decent enough .394 from behind the arc, but Ryan Anderson is the only player on the roster currently averaging double figures, and that is at just 10.3 ppg. He is also the team's top rebounder at 4.7 rpg. Jorge Brian Diaz and Brandon Richardson provide limited offensive support at 8.9 and 8.5 ppg, respectively. It was a defensive struggle in Lincoln this week, but the Cornhuskers came up short in a two-point loss to Baylor. Nebraska held the Bears to just a 40 percent shooting effort, but connected on a mere 31.6 percent of its own attempts in the loss. Myles Holly led the way with 11 points. Eshaunte Jones and Richardson chipped in with 10, but Anderson was held scoreless in 18 minutes of work.

The Longhorns started strong against top-ranked Kansas on Monday, but could not sustain the momentum and eventually fell hard to the Jayhawks, 80-68. The loss tainted tremendous performances by J'Covan Brown and Damion James. Brown hit 9-of-19 shots from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line to lead all scorers with 28 points. James has once again tough to deal with inside, recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Gary Johnson chipped in with 10 points, but the team only got six combined points from everyone else on the roster, as the team shot a dismal .373 from the floor in the game. The offensive numbers have been much better on the year, with Texas averaging 83.4 ppg on a steady .476 shooting. James is one of the premier frontcourt players in the country, averaging team-highs with 18.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Avery Bradley is next in the scoring column at 12.1 ppg, followed by Dexter Pittman (11.1 ppg) and Brown (10.2 ppg).

The Longhorns are trying to post 20 or more wins for the 11th straight season. Nebraska should provide little resistance in Texas reaching that mark today.
