GAME NOTES: The top two teams in the Big Sky Conference will clash this evening when the Weber State Wildcats host the Northern Colorado Bears at the Dee Events Center.
The Bears posted their third straight win on Friday with a 68-59 decision over Idaho State. With the victory over the Bengals the team pushed its league mark to 9-3 on the year, and also brought its road ledger to 8-3.
As for the Wildcats, they pushed their league mark to a conference-best 10-2 on the season with a 76-66 victory over Northern Arizona. It was the second straight win for Weber State, and the seventh win in the team's last eight games.
The Wildcats have won five of the seven matchups against Northern Colorado in the all-time series, but the last outing went in favor of the Bears, who grabbed an 84-75 decision.
The Bears have been solid throughout the season at the offensive end of the court, as the team is averaging 74.4 ppg. Will Figures is leading the team with 15.8 ppg on the year, while Devon Beitzel is contributing 14.7 ppg, to go along with 50 steals. The last time the Bears were on the floor the team did not put forth its best showing, but Northern Colorado still grabbed a victory over Idaho State. The Bears shot just 40.6 percent from the floor, but finished an impressive 21-of-26 from the foul line in the win. Neal Kingman led the way with 16 points for Northern Colorado, while Figures and Beitzel tallied 10 and nine points, respectively.
Just like the Bears, the Wildcats have been a dangerous force offensively, as the team is currently producing 76.3 ppg. Damian Lillard has been unstoppable on the year and comes into this contest leading the team with 20.4 ppg. Franklin Session is contributing 11.0 ppg and a team-best 6.2 rpg, while Steve Panos is helping out with 10.9 ppg. In the team's recent win over Northern Arizona, the Wildcats shot 50.9 percent from the floor and were led by Lillard who scored 26 points and dished out five assists. Session added 22 points in the win for Weber State.
This has all the makings of a great battle and will have a major impact on who will claim the regular season title. Earlier this season the Bears defeated Weber State, but look for the Wildcats to return the favor this evening.
