GAME NOTES: The Reed Green Coliseum will be the stage for a Conference-USA bout between the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and the Rice Owls.

Rice took a break from league action in its last matchup, as the Owls defeated Texas A&M International, 73-66. In conference action, the Owls have been dreadful, losing eight of their nine league games.

The last time the Golden Eagles were on the floor the team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 60-52 setback to Tulsa. The loss to the Golden Hurricane dropped the team to a mere 4-5 in conference play.

The Owls hold a 4-3 edge over Southern Mississippi in the all-time series, but two of the three wins for the Golden Eagles have come at home.

The Owls were not overwhelming in their last matchup, but the team still grabbed a seven-point win over Texas A&M International. Rice shot 41.5 percent from the floor in the contest, and finished 21-of-37 from the foul line. Arsalan Kazemi led the way in the win with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Trey Stanton added 16 points and nine boards, while Lucas Kuipers and Connor Frizzelle tallied 15 and 12 points, respectively. Despite the solid effort, the Owls have still struggled offensively, netting just 65.3 ppg on the year. Kazemi is currently pacing the team with 11.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg, while Tamir Jackson is contributing 11.4 ppg, to go along with 3.2 apg.

The Golden Eagles were not so golden the last time they were on the floor, as the team scored just 52 points in a loss to Tulsa. Southern Mississippi shot just 33.3 percent from the floor in the matchup, and finished just 5-of-16 from behind the arc. Gary Flowers was the only player to finish with double figures, as the forward tallied 19 points, to go along with seven rebounds. Flowers is the only player posting double figures on the season, as Flowers is currently netting 14.7 ppg, to go along with a team-best 7.9 rpg. As a whole however, the Golden Eagles are posting just 65.6 ppg.

Neither team has been explosive this season, so do not expect a high-scoring affair. The Golden Eagles are home for this matchup, so they should have a slight edge.
