GAME NOTES: A pair of middle-of-the-road Conference-USA teams will hit the floor at Hofheinz Pavilion this evening, as the Houston Cougars play host to the SMU Mustangs.

The last time the Mustangs were on the floor the team suffered a 62-51 setback to Texas-El Paso. It was the second loss in the last three games for SMU, which is now just 4-5 in league play.

As for the Cougars, they are coming off a thrilling, 74-72 victory over Western Kentucky. It was just the second win in the last six matchups for Houston, which is also only 4-5 in conference action.

The Cougars have won the last eight matchups against SMU and now hold a commanding, 41-22 edge in the all-time series.

The last time the Mustangs were on the floor they were ice cold, shooting just 34.0 percent from the field, en route to an 11-point loss to UTEP. SMU finished just 5-of-18 from long range and committed 14 turnovers in the matchup. Mouhammad Faye led the way in the loss with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Papa Dia tallied 11 points, to go along with eight assists. Leading the team on the season has been Derek Williams, who is netting 16.9 ppg, to go along with a team-best 80 assists. Dia and Faye have also contributed throughout the season, as Dia is netting 12.2 ppg and 8.5 rpg, while Faye is posting 10.3 ppg.

The Cougars have been very dangerous at the offensive end of the floor this season, as the team is producing 79.7 ppg. Aubrey Coleman has been unstoppable, as the guard is posting 26.0 ppg, to go along with 7.5 rpg. Kelvin Lewis is the only other player netting double figures and comes into this matchup netting 15.4 ppg. The last time Houston was on the floor the shot 43.3 percent from the field en route to a victory over Western Kentucky. Coleman exploded for 29 points in the win and also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Maurice McNeil and Lewis tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Mustangs have struggled on the road this season, and should have plenty of problems trying to slow down Coleman and company this evening.
