T-C-U (11-14) at Wyoming (9-15)

GAME NOTES: The Wyoming Cowboys try to halt a four-game slide this afternoon as they entertain the TCU Horned Frogs in a Mountain West Conference showdown at Arena Auditorium in Laramie.

Not only are the Pokes on a four-game slide at the moment, the team has won just once in the last eight games and is a mere 2-8 in conference. On Wednesday night, the program was completely dominated by San Diego State in an 88-57 final at Viejas Arena, which means Wyoming is still winless in true road games this season.

As for the Horned Frogs, they were home in Texas against Utah three nights ago, but that made little difference as the squad rolled over in a 64-55 final at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The defeat was the fifth in the last six games for TCU and dropped it to seventh in the MWC standings at just 3-7.

The Horned Frogs won the first meeting of the season by a score of 62-59 in Fort Worth last month, knotting the all-time series at seven games apiece in the process.

In a game that experienced seven ties and nine lead changes, the matchup between the Horned Frogs and Runnin' Utes on Wednesday night saw TCU shoot just 5-of-15 behind the three-point line and 36 percent from the floor overall. Nikola Cerina tallied 17 points and five rebounds and Ronnie Moss 12 points, seven assists and six boards, but he shot only 1-of-6 on the perimeter and 5-of-19 from the field overall. Not only is Moss the leading scorer for the program with his 14.4 ppg this season, he is also tops in the conference and third in the nation with 6.5 apg as well. Zvonko Buljan and Edvinas Ruzgas account for 12.3 and 11.3 ppg, respectively, the former also delivering on 8.9 rpg and 55 assists, but he is just 24 percent accurate out on the perimeter where the team has made good on a mere 33.6 percent thus far.

The Cowboys weren't that far off the mark after 20 minutes against San Diego State this week, but in the second half the visitors could not locate their offense, shooting only 29.2 percent from the floor, and allowed the Aztecs to run away with the victory. Djibril Thiam posted 15 points on an impressive 7- of-8 shooting effort from the field and Desmar Jackson another 14 points, but the latter also fouled out after being tagged with six turnovers. The team as a whole was charged with 20 miscues altogether. Since leading scorer Afam Muojeke went out with a season-ending knee injury the Cowboys have been dismal, scoring just 66 ppg in league games so far this season while giving up 76.4 ppg to MWC foes. With Muojeke on the shelf that means that Adam Waddell is the leading scorer for the group with his 11.2 ppg, but with just 57.4 percent shooting at the free-throw line it is not hard to see why the Pokes as a whole have made just 57.6 percent of their free-throw chances in league matchups this season.

As long as Moss doesn't have another weak shooting effort and can put his teammates in scoring position, the Frogs should be in line for the road win today.
