The Citadel (13-12) at Elon (6-18)

GAME NOTES: Two teams looking to bolster their respective positions in the Southern Conference race lock up, when the Elon Phoenix host the Citadel Bulldogs in an inter-divisional matchup this evening.

The Citadel was a 72-65 winner at the College of Charleston on Monday night. It was the Bulldogs' third straight win and took them over the .500 mark to 13-12 overall. They're 7-6 in the SoCon's South Division and in sole possession of fourth place. The Citadel is 4-6 on the road this season.

The Phoenix tangled with College of Charleston themselves Thursday night and came up short, by a count of 80-77 in Charleston. Elon has split its last six games and now stands at 6-18 overall, and 4-9 in conference play. That puts the Phoenix in a three-way tie for fourth place in the North Division.

This will be the only meeting between the two teams during the regular season. They split a pair of games last year, giving Elon an 8-3 edge in the series.

The Bulldogs got balanced scoring Monday night, as Zach Urbanus led the way with 17 points. Harrison DuPont and Cameron Wells added 15 points each. The Bulldogs got solid long-range shooting in the second half, going 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Wells is leading the Bulldogs in a plethora of categories, averaging 17.6 points, and 5.4 rebounds per game. He is also hitting 41.8 percent from the floor and 85.6 percent from the foul line, while averaging 4.1 assists. Wells is third in the conference in scoring and fourth in assists. Urbanus is averaging 11.2 ppg, and hitting 42.8 percent from three- point range. The Citadel is shooting 41.0 percent from the floor as a team and a respectable 70.3 percent from the foul line. The Bulldogs are scoring just 60.8 points per game, but giving up just 59.8 ppg.

Adam Constantine had a big night for Elon on Thursday, scoring 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while Scott Grable added 12 points and Chris Long, 10. The Phoenix trailed 49-38 at halftime and couldn't close the deficit. Drew Spradlin is the leading scorer on the ballclub at 12.9 ppg. He's hitting 40.1 percent from the floor. Constantine is providing 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. He's third in the conference in rebounding and is also shooting 56.9 percent from the field. Long is dealing out 3.8 apg, good for seventh in the conference, and is also hitting 83.8 percent from the foul line. Elon is scoring 64.8 ppg, but shooting just 40.3 percent from the floor. The Phoenix are struggling from long range as well, shooting just 31.1 percent from outside the arc.

Elon is a dismal 3-4 on its own floor this season and there is no reason that The Citadel should falter in this one.
