GAME NOTES: Two struggling Conference USA squads come together in Orlando today, as the Tulane Green Wave face off against the UCF Knights.
The Green Wave have won just once in their last seven outings and are currently stuck in a two-game rut. On Wednesday, Tulane was narrowly defeated, 71-68, at East Carolina, falling to 7-16 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
The Knights meanwhile, have suffered losses in four of their past five outings. UCF was downed at Memphis, 76-70, on Wednesday, as it dropped to 11-12 overall and just 3-6 within the conference.
UCF leads the head-to-head series with Tulane, 4-2, and that includes a 79-74 overtime triumph in last season's meeting.
Tulane scored 29 points off 19 ECU giveaways, but it still came up short 71-68 on Wednesday. The Green Wave hurt themselves with a sub par 16-of-26 showing at the foul line and they also allowed ECU to shoot an efficient 53.8 percent from the field. Tulane played the game without its top two scorers in Kevin Sims and Kris Richard, so it wasn't all that bad of an effort considering. Richard, who is averaging a team-high 13.2 ppg, sat out with a recent ankle injury, while Sims (12.3 ppg) continued to miss time with a broken wrist. Kendall Timmons, averaging just 7.1 ppg, picked up the slack in their absences and scored 16 points to lead Tulane in the loss.
UCF was outscored from long range, 27-18, and at the foul line, 19-12, as it suffered a 76-70 loss at Memphis on Wednesday. The Knights were also dominated on the boards, 34-20, including 13-4 on the offensive glass. A.J. Tyler tallied 18 points and six boards to lead the Knights, while Keith Clanton posted 12 points and six rebounds. On the season, Tyler is averaging 10.4 ppg to pace the Knights and he is also grabbing 4.9 rpg. Clanton chips in with 9.5 ppg and he has stepped up in league play to averaged 10.6 ppg against C-USA foes.
Neither club has had much luck of late, so go with the Knights, who have the luxury of hosting this game.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
