The Aggies grabbed a thrilling, 79-77 victory over UC Irvine earlier this season. Despite the loss, the Anteaters still hold a slim, 12-11 edge over UC Davis.
The Aggies have been mildly inconsistent at the offensive end of the floor and come into this matchup averaging 69.6 ppg. Dominic Calegari is currently pacing the team with 16.2 ppg, and is also pulling down 5.5 rpg. Joe Harden has been a force in the paint, posting 14.0 ppg, to go along with 7.1 rpg. The last time the Aggies were on the floor, the team only scored 62 points, but still got the win over Pacific. The Aggies shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the matchup and were paced by Julian Welch, who scored 19 points. Calegari added 13 points and seven rebounds in the contest, but Harden was held to just eight points.
The Anteaters have also struggled offensively this season, as the team is netting just 66.3 ppg, behind a 42.1 percent shooting effort. Eric Wise has been the top player on the floor for UC Irvine, pacing the team with 16.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 81 assists. Michael Hunter is contributing 13.7 ppg on the season for UCI. UC Irvine had trouble once again offensively, as the team scored just 61 points in its recent setback to Fullerton. UCI shot 41.4 percent from the floor, but made just 3-of-11 attempts from behind the arc. Wise led the way in the loss with 19 points, while Darren Moore and Hunter tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Neither team has been consistent offensively, but considering UC Irvine is home, look for the Anteaters to grab a slim victory.
