Utah State (19-6) at San Jose State (12-11)

GAME NOTES: Cruising along on a season-high nine-game win streak, the Utah State Aggies take their act on the road tonight as they visit the San Jose State Spartans for a Western Athletic Conference showdown at the Event Center.

It was a close call on Thursday night, but the Aggies managed to pull off the 72-67 win against Boise State on the road at Taco Bell Arena. That victory, coupled with New Mexico State's loss to Fresno State, means that USU is now sitting all alone atop the WAC standings at 9-2.

Meanwhile, the Spartans have been watching from the sidelines since bowing to NMSU a week ago in Las Cruces by a score of 94-82. The setback was the third in a row for SJSU, which is now a game under .500 in league play at 5-6.

Utah State has won four straight over the Spartans entering this meeting, including a 77-58 decision in Logan last month. As a result, the Aggies now own a 43-21 advantage in the all-time series.

Except for Nate Bendall who finished with seven points, every starter for the Aggies hit for double digits in the win against Boise State two nights ago, beginning with Jared Quayle with his 14 points. Quayle, who shot just 1-of-7 behind the three-point line, added a team-high nine rebounds, while Tai Wesley posted 13 points and six assists, Tyler Newbold tallied 11 points and Pooh Williams chipped in 10 in the victory as well. Over the course of 11 conference games, Wesley leads the team in scoring with his 12.2 ppg, thanks to 54.1 percent shooting from the floor. Wesley is also responsible for 6.5 rpg and has delivered on 35 assists and 17 blocked shots, which means he is giving his all at both ends of the floor for USU. Quayle contributes 11.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 42 dishes in those conference meetings, helping the team outscore the opposition by more than 12 ppg.

Robert Owens tied a San Jose State single-game record with seven three-point baskets in the meeting with New Mexico State last weekend, unfortunately it didn't change the outcome as the Spartans suffered the 12-point road loss. Owens finished with 29 points as he sank 10-of-18 from the floor overall, followed by Adrian Oliver with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Before fouling out Chris Oakes put together another double-double for the group with his 14 points and team-best 10 boards, but on the other side the Aggies had two players with double-digit rebounds, defeating the efforts by Oakes. The first player for the Spartans since 1993 to have at least 600 rebounds for his career, Oakes is currently averaging 11.3 ppg and 9.6 rpg in 2009-10, but not everything has been outstanding for the big man because he is still shooting just 59.2 percent at the free-throw line. Oliver (22.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg) tries to make up the difference with his 87.5 percent at the stripe.

Oakes may hold the advantage in the paint for the Spartans and Oliver might be a dynamic scorer for the home team, but Utah State simply has too many weapons to lean on to get the job done these days.
